This is the beer that made me join the site. So good it moved me to want to tell people about it. Not normally a Bitter fan this one is quite exceptional. A full malty flavour, smooth and a great lingering finish. The bottle reuse scheme they have set up is all good too. austinpowers (2832) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 19, 2007
A fantastic English bitter from NZ (bought in Hokitika). Sweet, aromatic with delicious delicacy and flavor. A real find. Very low hoppage. TinyTim (25) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 31, 2008
Nicely balanced bitter, a bit over-priced for what it was, but still very enjoyable. Great malts. yalnikim (800) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 11, 2006
UPDATED: APR 12, 2007 Tasted 12/04/2007, blind from the bottle, at a BJCP study session in Wellington. Pretty smooth and much more polished than in the past. A little one-dimensional and sweet on the nose, with a slightly muddled hop character, but all in all this is not a bad North German Altbier, reasonably fresh and hopefully the start of a quality improvement. Fourth rating - 1 and 3 were worty and insipid, with 2 and 4 being pretty good. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 10, 2009
Clear amber red body with a large pillowy head. Pleasant aroma mainly malt but also some grapefruit and some pine notes. Taste is a little dusty, good bitterness, a little more hop flavour and good length.

Bottle. Clear toffee-brown with an inch of puffy white head. Smells of apples, toffee and flowers. Thinnish texture with way too much carbonation - swirling got the head up to a 2 inches and the mouthfeel improved. Good, mostly old world bitterness plus hints of grapefruit with pears, toffee and spices. Not very English-tasting. Pretty good. bozoNZ (778) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 25, 2007
Tasted 09/06. Brief notes - reasonable taste & flavors but a bit watery - no head. very clear with a straw/barnyard aroma. sdriessen (320) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 24, 2009
500mL bottle. Pours a dark, amber/brown hue with a rocky, off-white head.
Nose is malty with mild hops. Hints of dark fruit, such as prune.
A nice bitterness in the flavours, quite hoppy, balanced by a sweet, vanilla maltiness.
Very clean and refreshing. Would be good to have a few more!

Eee by gum I like a pint of bitter. Deep amber colour with an off-white head that settles onto the beer and clings to the sides. Aromas of nutty maltiness and toffee. The hop character on really comes forward upon tasting with lovely tangelo peel and soft tingly mouthfeel. Tasty enough, but lacking a little in body. But in reality this is me being fussy. A perfectly presentable pint. PaperKnife (82) - - MAY 28, 2012
Draft at the tasting room. Amber color, nearly no head. Aroma is grassy. Bitter, malt, grassy. Very session-able.
