Sampled at Brewhibition. Reddish brown, thin beige head. Smells like chocolate and coffee, with some black peppery hop notes. Taste is also chocolate and coffee and then some burnt toast. Woody hop finish. Not bad... ads135 (4587) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - APR 25, 2015
Weak and watery porter. Not bad roasted quality, some nice grassy hops. Dark in appearance. Tried at the brewery in 2015. Drake (13639) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 5, 2015
Brewvival 2015 Trip #25. Keg at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, earthy hops. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, herbal, resin and green hops. Medium bodied, lingering roast, well balanced, drinkable. Delicious. 50belair (3617) - Florida, USA - FEB 17, 2015

On tap at brewery- nitro. Pretty tasty and definitely interesting. Shame about the crap service at the brewery. Drinks more like a hoppy scotch ale to me. Notes of caramel and toffee with a decent lingering bitterness to take sweetness down a notch. Better warmer. AVLBeerMagnet (17) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 18, 2014
Excellent use of hops. Wonder what the heck they actually used back in 1856, but Im happy they went with what they did! emacgee (4674) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - OCT 9, 2013
Tap at Beer Study. Thanks JD! Pour is dark black with opaque edges and one finger of tan head. Nose shows acidic black coffee and bitter chocolate and roast. Very heavy coffee flavor and bitter chocolate. Medium light body and dry. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 4, 2013
