On tap at Green Man. The appearance is a reddish brown color with a beige head. The aroma contains a ton of citrus and caramel. The flavor is malty and hoppy like most red ales are. The finish is mostly malty and slightly boozy with some dark fruit showing up. Overall nice one! DedicatedToFun (4003) - Santa Monica, California, USA - JUN 5, 2015

Had on tap at FRESH wood fired pizza in Black Mountain. Of the 3 red ales this week- Catawba, Highland- this was the most interesting. Not the easiest to drink, necessarily, but complex. Pours almost burnt copper color- nice head. Piney aroma most prominent. Big, slick, almost dank mouthfeel. Tons of flavor going on- sweetness is balanced by Chinook hops. Alcohol pretty apparent- one pint is plenty. Really well done. AVLBeerMagnet (17) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 18, 2014
Such an excellent aroma for a red ale. I think of this as your typical hoppy red, and would drink it as easy as an IPA.

Clean but dense red orange pour with thin off white head. Nose shows woody hops and peanut hulls some dark caramel grain sweetness. Somewhat muddled. Flavor shows woody hops and toasted grain. Peanut hulls and sharp resinous hops. Very sharp citrus rinds. Piney. Palate is pretty sharp and bitter with some alcohol showing. More dark caramel grain a little more predominant than I would like. Medium body with a sharp finish. Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 13, 2013
Draft sample at the 9th Annual Summertime Brews Festival, Greensboro, 7/13/13. Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of spicy, citrus hops and faint caramel malts. The taste is caramel malts, floral, fruity and earthy hops. Medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness. Tap at Beer Study. Light hazy reddish amber with solid steady white head and sticky webby lace. Nose is sweet caramel malts, earth and pine resin hops. Flavor is similar. Not a style I like too much, but this okay and not too over the top with sweet malts like most. OldGrowth (3665) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - JUN 18, 2013
