3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2009 Pours an opaque dark brown with light brown head. A malty aroma with coffee notes, dark chocolate and a hint of plum. It has quite a crisp, clean flavour with dark chocolate, raisin, plum, prune, a strong cherry character and a bitter coffee finish. The only hint of the 7% ABV comes in the aftertaste, accompany a lovely dark fruit flavour. Incredibly balanced and smooth, an incredibly enjoyable beer.
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2014 Bad (spoiled) beer/bottle... (Bottle, from Fresh Choice in Richmond, best before 14/2) Taste very sour! Shame I was looking forward this one. I will have to taste another bottle!

Appears inky-brown with a deep brown head. The aroma initially didn’t promise much: fresh homebrew along with carob (I hate carob) and some chocolate and it stayed that way. To taste it was sweet and had charry caramels, chocolate icing and carob (I really hate carob). I love stout, but this left me a little cold if I’m honest. bluebetty (1021) - AUSTRALIA - APR 13, 2011
Tap. Pours jet black with smallish tan coloured head. Aromas are not huge. Some roasted malt and dark toffee. Flavours are quite sweet initially. SOme roasted grain bitterness comes through near the finish. Thin mouthfeel. A little too sweet for my liking. Dudar (112) - Minsk, BELARUS - JAN 31, 2011
black opaque, chocolate dense head with good retention. smells coffee, licorice, bit of chocolate, smoke and citrus. Taste is sour. sour!!! gentle roasty bite, light-moderate bitterness, dry finish. Nice texture creamy, a bit oily, sour aftertaste. The ony thing that saved this beer in my case is that i was having it with cold smoked juicy fish, where acidity was more of a bonus. Drinking it alone would be hard. mkel07 (6546) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - FEB 17, 2010
500ml bottle. Rich deep coffee colour with a thin tan head, looks great when poured, with foam that fades to lace. Burnt malt and dark chocolate aromas with flavours that are not as strong as the aroma and lets it down a little. Some chocolate flavours kick in after a while.

Bottled and lightly chilled. Little head, reminded me of soda pop. Colour was good but taste was very weak. Nose was inconsequential and left no aftertaste. davidm (2081) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle 500ml. Delicious beer, the last of my trip to NZ. Burnt aromas, with chocolate, and also apple. Tastes sweet at first, for a long-lasting bitter finish. Syrupy and full-bodied in the palate. Black, with a fizzy, short-lasting head. Ungstrup (38932) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - OCT 3, 2009
Bottled. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, straw, and roasted malt. The flavor is very sweet with notes of roastd malt as well as light ntoes of prunes and wood towards the finish. Simple and a bit too sweet for my liking. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. Bottle. Pours nearly jet black with a tan head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is fairly straightforward roasted malt with hints of dark chocolate, seaweed and a little saltiness. Flavour is much the same but with a bit of yeastiness and a hint of black coffee. Nice and easy to drink but doesn’t really stand out in any way. Enjoyit (3809) - Vadum, DENMARK - AUG 26, 2009
Black of color with a brown head. An aroma of dark chocolate, coffe and roasted. A flavor of roasted malt and coffee.
