12oz bottle, shared with DanielCoor. Dark brown, slightly red color. More clear around the edges, but from a reasonable distance, more than dark enough for a black IPA. Medium body. More dry texture. Good, super-smooth lighter carbonation. Nice piney, lightly earthy, light herbal hop aroma. Good, light roasted malt aroma, a nice balanced amount. Lightly toasty, just a hint of burnt / ashiness. Good herbal bitterness, light sweet taste in the finish. Very tasty aftertaste. Super good, drinkable, and tasty. Was not expecting that, as I was told that this was less than fresh. Very fresh, assertive, citrusy piney nose. Much better than expected, very solid njager246 (697) - grand rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 28, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2015 Pours black with tan head... some citrus and hop aroma.... caramel, coffee, and hops! Great beer! Cbuk1013 (247) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - JUN 20, 2013
Pours dark brown. Smell is full of hops. Taste is very hoppy with citrus with an underlying sweetness. Finishes with lingering bitterness. Very good beer from a young brewery. brokephibroke (315) - Mead, Colorado, USA - JUL 2, 2013
Bottle from trade with Silphium. Deep black pour with red hues, latte like head. aroma is sweet malt with some raw herbs. Smooth chocolate up front with roasted coffee. Bitter linger denotes the happiness. To me this is almost a stout. The choice of hops makes this a unique beer. The simcoe dominates to me. jjgmd (2163) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 21, 2014
Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a large loose wispy java head. Nose is deep citrus with notes of resin and pine. Taste is hoppy and bitter and well balanced with deep chocolate malts. Finish is bitter, dry, with moderate lingering. A very tasteful and flavorful BIPA. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Aroma: The nose is a nice mix of chocolate malts and pine/resiny hops
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a nice forth of tan/light brown head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, nice balance, some sweetness, but leans bitter
Palate: The body is medium, it has a solid mouthfeel, smooth, with a decent dryness
A very nice example of the style overall. I enjoyed this beer, and I also thought it held up well with the food at this excellent restaurant.
Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown with a frothy tan head. Aromas are a mix of powdered chocolate and pine needles and flavor is similar with most of the kick coming from resinous piney hops in the finish. It’s very nicely balanced for a BIPA and an excellent example of the style... gyllenbock (9177) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 15, 2016
On tap at Howells & Hood.
Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of hops, dark chocolate, some licorice and grapefruit. Similar taste. Nicely balanced and with a bitter finish. A tasty one.

Impressive! Beautiful pour...black as coal with a dark tan head that lingers and laces through the entire glass. I could tell from the aroma that I was in for a surprise. I will be drinking more of this. The flavor is excellent. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - OCT 2, 2011
Sampler on tap at the brewpub (Sawyer, MI). Pours a dark blackish brown hue, near opaque with glowing brownish edghes, a frothy offwhite head sits atop, laces small. Aromas are roasty malts and citrusy hops, florals, and toast. Some anise, subtle, and some good hops. Initial is medium bodied offering some ok roast and toast, a healthy citrusy hops. Grapefruit, lemons, oranges, florals cache into roast, toast, some subtle dark sweetness. A really great Black IPA, healthy hops of citrusy life with roast, toast, and a lack of body (which works in it’s favor). Darker and roasty with a copious American hop slant. Finish is roasty, hoppy, lingering citrus and dryness. Very well done.
