Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear deep amber colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of biscuity malt, toffee, fruitcake, some spice, slight apple, a little brown sugar and subtle earthy hops. Taste of toffee, biscuity malt, fruitcake, some spice, slight apple, a little treacle, a hint of alcohol and subtle earthy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, fruitcake, earthy hop bitterness in the finish. A really sweet, malty winter ale with toffee and fruitcake dominating and a dry finish. A good, strong beer for the season.

Pint pour from cask into mug in London. Deep amber, supper creamy. Great body. Light malty taste, not too much carbonation. A nice beer to warm up on on a cold winter’s night.

Cask at the Moon under Water, Hounslow. Deep brown with a lasting loose head, lightly spicy and fruitcake aromas, body is dry-sweet and woody, a bit more spice and fruit, becoming more caramelly and notably sweeter in the finish.

Cask at the Wharf. A clear copper colored beer with some off-white bubbles on top. Dark dried fruits, some toffee and pine cones in the aroma, as well as a hint of fruit caramel. It’s quite dry on the palate, but feeling lightly sweetish. Toffee, dark dried fruits and a decent bitterness. Pine cones too. Alcohol hints. Very soft carbonation. Lasting finish with a nice balance. Pretty nice this one. 150301
