UPDATED: APR 7, 2017 At lovely drop of beer. In a clear bottle so I was a little worried but thankfully not skunked. Malty, mineral aroma and flavor, maybe some toffee. I can like hoppy beers, I can like very oak-y beers, I can like other extreme beers but this is a testament to the power of subtlety. Smooth easy drinking but complex with out being over bearing. 330 mL bottle, I think shared by ebone1988. Him and the damn book. The pour is a clear medium brown color with a little garnet shining through and a light khaki head that falls to a ring, leaving a decent couple pieces of lace. The aroma had a good caramel and fruitiness to it. There is a lot of bready malts and a light influence of oak. It’s got a decent bit going on, but it’s not deep or complex at all, which is what I’ve come to expect from an old ale. The flavor is just about what you’d expect from the aroma. There is a caramel and bready malt, a light oakiness and a dry fruitiness. There is a little bit of a sweetness on the back, but it’s light and messy. The mouth feel is decently bodied with a softer carbonation and a lingering caramel and a light charred malt on the finish. Bottle from Merchants. Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. Aroma is caramel, toffee, bready, nutty, sweet, dark fruit, woody, really nice. Appearance is mahogany brown, light brown head, clear. Taste is caramel, woody, fruity, dry, toffee, earthy. bready, eh. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, woody caramel earthy aftertaste. Kicsi, nem túl tartós hab, fekete szín. Pörkölt malátás, karamelles illat. Karamelles, malátás, enyhén fűszeres ízek. Közepesen testes, enyhén szénsavas és keserű. Kellemes, túlzásokba még véletlenül sem eső sör.

500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 5/31/2016. Pours crystal clear dark ruby red/brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, vanilla, oak, raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apple, sherry, and red grape; with light notes of cocoa, licorice, tobacco, leather, butterscotch, herbal, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, and light-moderate oak notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, vanilla, oak, raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apple, sherry, and red grape; with light notes of cocoa, licorice, tobacco, leather, butterscotch, herbal, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness and tannic oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, vanilla, oak, dark fruit, apple, sherry, herbal, light cocoa/leather/tobacco, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, and light-moderate oak flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from lingering bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a great old ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, and light-moderate oak flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Very well rounded and rich in complexity for the modest ABV. The diacetyl was a bit overpowering in the aromas at first, but seemed to mellow out as it warmed. [33cl bottle as Strong Suffolk Dark Ale from local market] Faint aroma of oxidation in the kind of wet cardboard with rich estery notes of dark fruit, bit of toffee, some bread and nuts. Deep amber in the glass with frothy beige head. Beer is definitely dry with tough fruity profile, some notes of wooden barrel, coffee and metallic touch. Complex but not really overwhealming. Bottle 0.33l at Gunners Pub Belgrade, Serbia. 11.04.2017. Pour it clear brown color with medium white head. Aroma roasted malt, rusty little bit. Taste of rust, metallic, caramel all the time later on, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, sticky, soft carbonation, bitter finish. OK classic! Bottled at the Croatian beer judge classes some time ago, blind tasting. My notes were subsequently lost, but I do remember this as a quality, tasty complex aroma- and flavor-wise malt-driven beer, blending various malt-produced notes with some fruitiness that may well be from the yeast, but without aggression, without, perhaps, that much "daring" (which is still plenty considering the brewer), very well polished all in all. Will rerate almost certainly if faced with another bottle. In any case, I liked this.
