A 6% abv dark ale is created using a traditional brewing method of making two beers of different character and strength, which are then blended together. The beer takes its name from the racing term Springer, a racehorse whose odds dramatically shorten before the race.

Enjoyable full bodied dark ale which packs a punch. One of Greene Kings best efforts Ive tried. Found this ale well balanced and tasted every bit as strong as the 6% strength stated on the bottle, very nice.

ALLOVATE (2932) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 20, 2016
At cellar temperature and into a tulip. It looks the goods with a burnished ruby body that is briliiant and shimmers in the th lights. Atop is a messy whip of tannish cream that holds and weaves a thick lace. And from there we take one step down - Prominant dust and topsoil with hints of fudge caramel and sticky toffee, and roasted walnuts on the nose. And then off the cliff it falls!!! On the palate it is sickly sweet, tannic, astringent and hard to swallow. Alcohol is heated - strange for the modest 6.0% ABV. Prune syrup, reduced to a sticky caramel, seems quite prominant in the finish. The body is viscous and cloying but not overly big. Carbonation is spritzy. Typically English ale flavour comes through as earthy, nutty and hinting at dried fruits like prunes and dates. The liquor seems mineral-like and coats the tongue half way into drinking. This is not good, and I feel a little awkward as I was the one to request this being imported into Australia. I had actually hoped for more but then it is Greene King after all! Feel a little robbed. A dark reddish brown coloured beer with a weak off white head. A light caramel malt aroma, dusty and biscuity, hints of ripe berry fruit and some woody spice. Dry mouthfeel. The taste starts off with a mild bitterness, grassy hop and pithy citrus fruit. This is soon over taken by the malt, dry to start, biscuity and dusty, then a smoother sweet malt element comes through, ripe berry fruit, caramel and a hint of woody vanilla spice. The finish is dry to start with then the sweetness comes through. Bottle from Tescos, Kings Lynn.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2014 Deep brown, moderate head with good lacing. The aroma is dominated by caramel with notes of dry fruit. Medium to full body. Medium sweet taste with some bitterness. A good beer of no complexity in my opinion.

Bottle. Clear reddish-brown, no head. Strongish but not overbearing with a sugar driven sweetness in both aroma and taste.
