Very nicely put together. Flavors and characteristics balance each other well and the finish is smooth and clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice thinnish, two centimetre all off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, toffee, earth, grain and a bit of pitted fruits. Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavour with a lot of caramelised sugars, some toffee and fruits and a big dose of metal noticeable. Aftertaste shows some grain and a bit of toasted malt, a lot of caramel and toffee and a heavy flavour of light coffee and tea. Overall, a nice and rich beer with a pronounced roasty flavour, a lot of sweetness from caramelised sugars and a bit of bitterness and deep flavours at the end. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased yesterday from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 20-January-2017 for US$2,99 sampled at my hotel here in New York on 21-January-2017.

Bottle at home from Whole Foods Billyburg. Rusty reddish brown. Malty grainy sugary sweet in vein of barleywine. Nose of malts and pie crust. Warming and full bodied. Nice winter brew, would order fall through early spring.

From a bottle, poured into a pint glass. From this bottle, little head, virtually no lacing. Appearance is slight hazy amber-brown. Aroma is charred wood, leather, cinnamon, allspice, some sweetness. Flavor is immediately sweet and smoky, like burned caramel or toffee, on the tip of the tongue. Has a slight sourness to it. Musty aftertaste lingers in the back of the throat and creeps into the nasal passages, which is off-putting at first, yet grows on me. Mouthfeel is medium; it sticks to the tongue although is not a chewer. I like that it’s not a spice-forefront winter brew. It’s more of a heartier bock, but it’s a bit too sweet for my taste.

Draught @ Albion. Clear copper red with small creamy beige head, very faint caramel aroma, high carbonation, spicy caramelized malt taste, thin body, long bitterish finish. Decent, not great.

Nutty, woodsy, leathery - belongs on the end of a stick over a fire pit, a cedar closet, or on the bottom shelf of an old man’s library. Very, very subtle stone fruit on the nose.

The Diamond, Brooklyn tap: pours light browb with a beige head. Aroma is pine, caramel, and general maltiness. Taste is malty with some hop bit in the finish. At first it seemed kind of weak but it grew on me later. Good.

Sample at Rattle N Hum. Reddish-brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, toffee and malt. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, caramel and ripe fruit. The finish is very sweet with a lingering malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft. Brown body with a fizzy, beige head, rapidly diminishing. Malty aroma with light floral notes. Bread, caramel, toffee, plum. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, moderately to lively carbonated. Sweet, bready tastes.

Mason jar fill at the Beer Table Pantry, Grand Central, drank on the 1.36pm train from NYP to Trenton, 26/11/13. Dark mahogony brown with a good sized tan covering. Nose is burnt raisens, dark toffee fudge, fruit loaf mix, dark caramelised sugars, light cocoa, stewed dark fruits, sweet waftings. Taste comprises Xmas cake, root liqourice, pitted dark fruit, dates, raisens, muscavado sugar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light booze coating in a sweet and fruity closure. Decent enough affair.
