Tap at 2017 Michigan winter beer festival. Big stout with roast malt and dark chocolate, plenty of bourbon influence. Good stuff.

Coacoa and bourbon nose. Black with 1 tan head. Smooth cocaou and chocolate. A bit of vanilla and a hint of bourbon. Wow. This thing surprised me. Very very good beer. Bummed that I didn’t buy more

On tap at Crunchy’s. Pours black. Notes of chocolate and coffee. Bitter but oh so smooth. Not overly sweet either and no booze burn.

Tap at Hop Cat, Detroit. Pours pitch black, nice tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, very roasty malt. Flavor is in your face bourbon, drinks very boozy. Feels like 13%. There’s a prominent note in this that I can’t quite place. Maybe molasses or oak. Smokey too. It’s a little aggressive and not so much finesse. Think the hazelnut and coffee is substantially better.

Bottle from a trade. Snifter. Hot tube. Party. Light bell pepper, cinnamon. Faint vanilla. More coffee than bourbon. Taste is more peppery than coffee. Earthy. Light booze. Good but not grate

Aroma is roasted malt, booze, barrel, chocolate, vanilla. Appearance is Daryl brown, light brown head, thin. Taste is rotated malt, bourbon, barrel, some chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel is a touch thin, soft carbonation and medium body. Overall, not great but not bad.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; 2014 vintage bottling, 12% ABV. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, bourbon, toasted oak, light char, and roast/oaky earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, bourbon, toasted oak, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, bourbon, toasted oak, and oak/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible barrel aged imperial stout style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
