hauxe (558) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - DEC 13, 2016
Pours dark amber from the bottle. The head is thick and sudsy, but soon fades to a thin layer of creamy lacing. Aroma is prune, raisin, cherry, milk chocolate. Nice start. Taste is sweet, with noticeable brown sugar and caramel. Stays sweet into the lightly warming finish, where a light chocolate note arises. Decent enough, although this eventually feels to some extent like going through the motions. Despite being overall medium bodied, the beer has a watery note to it at times, really more in the taste than the palate. It can be overlooked, but the flavors that do come through seem to collide more than complement each other. Not bad, but there are better Dubbels out there.

Ritzn (985) - Bavaria, GERMANY - DEC 10, 2016
Brown/ruby with almost no head. Aroma is cedar wood, clove, phenols, slight smoke and some dark fruit. Heavy. Taste is slight bitterness with phenolic sweetness, smokey and heavy. Rather oily mouthfeel, little spicyness, not much carbonation. Heavy without an easy going counterpart, no real character, apart from that ok.
