33 cl bottle, $2.30 @ Binny’s, Jul ’09. Hey, 800th rating for this beer. Got a nice goblet that receives a deep red-brown, opaque beer, with a fluffy tan head. I sniff nice sweet Belgian malts and a bit of sugar, plus a bit of sourness. First thing I notice when sipping is that its texture is kind of light.Still some nice malt, sweetness is not as pronounced as some Belgian abbey beers. A little toffee if I hold some beer in my mouth, and a bit of sourness, maybe as much as in a Guinness. A bit of plum and fruitcake a little down the glass. Works out pretty nice. Mild alcohol note. Label description implies a bottle fermentation, but there’s no sediment in this one.

Butelka 330 ml.

From old tasting notes. Deep burgundy red, brown color. Fluffy beige head. Soft fruity malt nose. subtle, yeasty malt flavor hints at chocolate and a raisins. Nice smooth malty finish.

Aroma is chocolate/cocoa, caramel malts and mild fruit. The flavor is fruit/berries, chocolate, caramel/malts and a mix of tart and sweet in the finish.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2017 Bottle. Hazy brown-amber color with eggshell head. Aroma is toffee, prunes. Taste is toffee, caramel, prunes and other dark fruits, a bit sirupy and sugary in its sweetness. High carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Not bad, but it’s very simple and just too sweet for me.

Interesting beer. It’s hard to categorize when one tries to base the description off from the beer’s stated style. I found it to be mostly a dunkel in both overall taste and body. This was followed by a dry and, almost, sour finish. This distinct finish becomes less noticeable mid way through the second glass. Not bad.
