Bottle... Pretty darn dark ale that shows a clear ruby hue when held up to bright light. Small, creamy, beige head. Good retention. Chocolaty nose with hints of vanilla and acidity. The flavor is of unsweetened cocoa with light tartness and some mild woodsiness. Medium-bodied with a barely oily mouthfeel and more-than-medium carbonation. Chocolaty, lightly bitter finish with just a gesture of pungency. Contract brewed by Jolly Pumpkin and it shows! DrewTaylor (154) - Michigan, USA - DEC 3, 2006
Dark brown color with medium light brown head that left quickly. Medium malt aroma, with a thick dry chocolate taste. A nice porter. Dogfish120 (143) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - NOV 8, 2006
On tap at brewery. Actually one of my fav porters. Buttery aroma with nice head, noticable lacing. Creamy flavor, but still tating butter befor the expected bitterness. Malts and hops come through in the end to leave with a decent smooth finish. Very drinkable. MI2CA (1340) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - OCT 8, 2006
12oz - Aroma is mostly roasted chocolate malt, but there is a substantial hop bitterness behind it. Pours black with a huge fluffy brown head and good lacing. Flavor is at first a match to the aroma, then subsides into a more mocha creaminess. Palate is tart and sticky. Interesting porter and worth a go. muzzlehatch (4959) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 17, 2006
Draught sample at the brewpub, early August 2006. A bit of lasting tan head tops the very dark, translucent purple-black body and leaves nothing behind as it disappears in the glass....roasty, lightly chocolaty-milky nose, hints of anise and tart berries (cranberries, cherries).....well-constructed firm malt background with just the right amount of roastiness for serious drinkability, touches of coffee and chocolate, just a tad grapy at the finish....low tingly carbonation, dries out quite a bit at swallowing...solid.

Draught. Dark brown-mahogany with a soapy head. The aroma consists of roasty dark fruits and pine hops. Light and palatable flavours - chocolate and leafy green hops come to mind. Came off as a bit weak at times but it was still pretty decent. hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 6, 2006
On tap at the Grizzly Peak Brew Pub. Poured a dark brown color with red edges and a small sized off white head. Aromas of cocoa, roast, caramel, and lightly smoky. Tastes of chocolate, roast, and caramel with a coffee finish. Some lacing left on the glass. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - JAN 21, 2006
A pour of dark brown, with a creamy tan head. Aroma of light molasses. Flavor is extremely rich, melded from smoke, bacon, coffee, chocolate and toast. Lots of heavy cream, molasses and honey. Touch of toffee and brown sugar. Palate is a touch sticky, but the suprising dose of hops keep in clean. Very respectable. Tmoney99 (14479) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 9, 2005
Draft at Grizzly Peak. Dark brown color with medium light brown head that diminshed quickly. Medium malt and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a dry texture. Medium flavor of coffee and chocolate with a weak finish. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - JAN 30, 2005
Tap. Deep brown color. Moderate sized tan head with decent lacing. Chemical, phenolic aroma. Nice chocolate and coffe flavors. A touch thin in body. Decent, but missing in aroma and palate.
