Blond version only! Not produced since 2010.

Previously 7.7% ABV. Grottenbier Flemish Ale is a unique ale produced by one of the great Flanders breweries. Pale golden in color with a white, dense foam and a flavor that is soft, creamy and slightly herbal. Aging will reveal new layers of flavor, but Grottenbier Flemish Ale is eminently drinkable anytime! A unique Belgian classic from the mind of Pierre Celis.

75 cL bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a lacing white head. Dry yeasty and slight spiced with a mild dry wooden note. Dry wooden and yeasty with a nice mild brettish accent. Caramelish and slight yeasty with a lasting dry finish. Smooth and mellow with a dry accent.

Sampled this as Grotten Flemmish Ale. A hazy yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of lemon, and a slight acidity. The flavor is sweet malty again combined with an acidic note. A quite simple beer. Had expected more, since I really enjoy the brown version.

(Bottle 75 cl) Comes as "Grotten Flemish Ale - Pierre Celis Signature Collection" - no less! Pours a hazy golden with an off-white head. Aroma of yeast and sweetish malt. Quite full-bodied with some alcohol presence and a surprisingly solid bitterness that holds all the way through. 200506

Bottle. Malty, spicy and citric aroma. Very cloudy, grey/golden colour. Small stable head. Flavour much like aroma.

Aroma of citrus and other fruit. Some light spice notes. Beautiful light apricot color with a white head that persists stubbornly. Citrus, stone fruit, spice, yeast and a whole lot more at about the same time. Arguably some flowery hop, but at least some bitterness towards the end., while something like a light honey sweetness stays with the tongue. Dry finish on the whole, but not desperately astringent. Wonderful mouthfeel. Very clean, very refreshing, very rewarding.

BeerandBlues2 (13310) - Escondido, California, USA - NOV 25, 2006
750 mL caged and corked bottle. Pours a hazy brown and ruby, lightly cloudy with a small, mostly diminishing light brown fizzy head, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, toasted nuts), average hops (flowers, perfume), light yeast (dough, leather) with notes of average alcohol, banana, cask and honey. Average duration, light sweetness, harsh acidity, heavy bitterness, minerals. Medium bodied, slick and foamy texture, lively carbonation.
