3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Grumpy Troll, pours a very dark brown with a thin off white head, the aroma has a nice amount of chocolate and roasted malt, the flavor has a strong chocolate front end with a finish toffee and malt, a little bit of the abv is tasted but it’s pretty nice.
At brewpub. Quite nice, yes, very drinkable for the strength, Not as full of dried fruity flavors, but then I see it was with lager yeast. Serving: Tap muzzlehatch (4969) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 1, 2016
Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #91. 22 ounce bottle from the brewpub drunk at my parents’ house in Wisconsin, August 2008. Opaque dark prune-to-black, big large-bubble head recedes slowly leaving thick lacing...nose is grapy, chocolaty, a bit too sweet and noxious at first, though it settles down eventually and a bit of toasty malts emerge...body rich and very sweet, lots of cocoa-vanilla, light vinous qualities and faint notes of sour fruits - grapes and cherries...light grassy-grainy notes late-coming onto the tastebuds do help to keep it from cloying or stickiness...smooth and velvety, low carbonation (perhaps could be a little higher). Pretty solid and one of the better things I’ve had from GT. beerbaaron (1998) - Arizona, USA - DEC 24, 2014
Has some age. No date on bottle, but I’ve had it for about 8 months. Black with frothy beige head. Malty aroma. Lots of Chocolate. Roasty. Lighter dark fruitiness underneath. Lighter medium body. Moderate bitter, semi roasty finish. A good full bitterness that isn’t all in your face, layered beneath the chocolate and roast. MarinEvelyn (854) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 24, 2014
super malty, rich, chocolately. taste is a little bitter but really pretty smooth. milk, cream, more of a bitter/dry/slightly funky aftertaste Lou109 (4) - - JUN 11, 2014 does not count

On tap at Grumpy Troll. Deep black brown body, stained glass corners. Thin soda head. Pretty decent for the style, but certainly leans into the alcohol. Coffee tinged burn. Roasty chocolate aroma. Come off like a lagered Stout. Oily, rich specialty malts. Enjoyable, but lacks the depth of a World Class example. andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 19, 2012

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is chocolate and roasted malt, as well as being lightly tart. Not sure if this is an early sign of infection or if the brewer intended it to be a little bit tart, but it doesn’t take away from the beer. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
