Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #89. Draught sample at the brewpub, mid-August 2008. Interesting that they had both this and the "regular", non-bourbonized version on tap at the same time. Anyway in this case the bourbon does no favors; the stable head on the regular Spetsnaz is replaced by a quick-dying one here, the body seeming just as inky and opaque but thinner...nose is all bourbon, perhaps some raisiny-grapy notes are in there but they’re pretty hard to find...body is also boozy and vinous, very sweet, though it does dry out and some toasty malts come in for a nice finish. Ehh, in the end it’s not bad but definitely simpler and less interesting than the "regular" version. nuplastikk (6289) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 12, 2014
Snifter at GT. Opaque brown-black body. Not much head, gone after a few minutes. Smooth and sweet, nice mixture between caramel, chocolate. Lightish on the booze. Smooth, middle of the road, but quite alright. cbfobes (2883) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - JUN 16, 2012
On tap at brewpub, pours black with a thin dark brown head, the aroma is roasty with some bourbon and chocolage, the flavor has a front end that is a ton of bourbon and not alot else, there is a little bit of chocolate in the finish, completely unbalanced for me with way too much bourbon and not enough chocolate and malt. arkurzynski (2427) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - APR 21, 2012
Black pour with orange-tan head. Aroma of light bourbon, Sharp vanilla, and yellow cake batter. Flavor is an acidic roast with red wine-like flavors, wood tannin. Some light bourbon. Acidic finish. phishpond417 (2088) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 14, 2008

On draught at the brewpub in downtown Mt Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear dark cola brown brew with virtually no head. Aroma of toasted dark malt and just a touch of bourbon and oak. Taste is medium bodied, no carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malt, vanilla, oak wood and some bourbon. Finish is slightly watery with a more distinct toasted dark malt and just barely any bourbon in the aftertaste. Not an in-yer-face bourbonized stout but just a dark beer with some light bourbon character. hopdog (12575) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 21, 2008
