On tap at brewpub, pours a dark amber color with no head at all, aroma of roasted malt with a touch of chocolate, the taste is typical with sweet malt, overall not bad just not great. kseecs16 (1216) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - MAY 28, 2010
Draught. Murky brown and slightly transparent at the edges of the glass. Has a thin film off-white head with clumps of bubbles. Aroma is rich and nutty with some chocolate notes. Flavor has a noticeable spicy character on a light nutty malt body. Thin bodied.

Pours a cloudy dark auburn with wispy head that leaves nice lacing around the sides of the glass. Aroma is grainy, nutty, and a little bitter. Flavor is nutty, dry, toasted grains; a small toouch of malt provides some balance. Some hop crispness in there too, at levels appropriate to the style. Nice and carbonated - finishes with a tinglier palate than one typically finds with a brown. A nice session brew.
On tap at Grumpy Troll. Poured clear, deep amber with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up nutty notes and caramel sweetness accented by a touch of tobacco.. there was an oddly-placed sour presence in there too. The flavor had toasty caramel and nutty notes throughout with a bit of leafy bitterness at the edges.. light sourness and herbal bitterness on the finish.. well-balanced and tasty. Lighter-bodied and somewhat tacky at times on the palate.. OK flow and a decent brew overall. noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 23, 2009
Very dark brown pour. A thin off white head quickly dissipates, but leaves a modest lacing. Rather faint nutty malt aroma. Flavor is slightly caramelized malt, somewhere between brown sugar and cream soda. A little nutty bitterness with a floral hop character. Delightfully smooth drinking, pleasantly effervescent in the mouth, but rather more felt than tasted.

On draught at the brewpub in downtown Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark copper amber brew with a fast dissolving off white head that dissipates to a thin ring and thin off-white ring. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, some roasted nute, flowery hops and a touch of brown sugar. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark caramel malts, roasted nuts and flowery hops. Finish has a good balance of flowery hops and caramel malt aftertaste with a touch of chocolate.
