Pours pale yellow (pee on a non-hungover day). Aroma is a little funky with fruit and yeast. Smooth body with very mild flavor. Eh, better than Miller Lite. TheEnemy (564) - Chicago, USA - MAR 12, 2010

An even lighter version of their Captain Fred, which is already plenty light. Pours very pale watery hellow with little head but a sprising amount of lace. Aroma is light malt, some fruity esters, and grassy grain. Flavor is light, crisp, refreshing, watery, and a surprise dose of banana and bubblegum to almost make it interesting. Tingly, lively palate. Tastes better than a low-calorie beer as any right to taste, but it still can’t quite disguise its intentions. Like the Captain Fred, very good for what it is but I wish brewpubs with legitimate craft-beer pretensions wouldn’t stoop to lowest-common-denominator beers like this. I understand the business case for doing so, but it still irks me a little.
Smooth and very light, the unfiltered aspect keeps it enjoyable.Slight lemony tang. Light hazy yellow color. Minimal aroma. Good and fresh. Simple. kingsman (3) - USA - OCT 21, 2009 does not count
this is biled as a light beer and i think they hitthe mark on the style and thelight feel. the beer has a great taste and at 110 cals per glass it is an excellent counter to the more famous lite beers on the market. flavor is full and refreshing. shigadeyo (3856) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 14, 2009

9/05/2009: Grumpy Troll Ensign Fred... Aroma: Sourish smell that is a little bit like Riesling wine. Appearance: Pale straw color; hazy; thin white head. Flavor: A bit nutty with a light grassy hoppiness; seems a bit off... Palate: Very light and not smooth at all. Overall: Um, I passed on having a second one...
Draught (ABV 3.2% / 9 IBUs) at The Grumpy Troll Brew Pub in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Rating #5 for this beer.
On tap at the brewpub 7/31/09: Pours a transparent deep golden with a thin covering of white head. Aroma of dry grainy malt and some grassy hops. Has decent body and effervescent carbonation along with some bland grainy flavor and mild hop bitterness before a drier thinner finish. A pretty standard light beer, but not offensive. JPDIPSO (6317) - Wauwatosa, USA - AUG 10, 2009
Straw color with a wispy white head. Grains and herbal to grassy hops scents. Flavors are light and nearly overtaken by glass cleaner. Great, another micro light. noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 12, 2009
Hazy gold with a finger of white head that vanishes after a couple sips. Nice gumball aroma. Flavor built around an underlying husky, somewhat scuzzy light malt body, but made somewhat interesting by its lemon and gumball elements. Thin bodied. Skyview (6115) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - APR 24, 2009
On draught at the brewpub in downtown Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear golden straw brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of golden grain malt, some light citrus zest, and a hint of apple. Taste is light bodied, some carbonation with a light golden grain malt and a hint of grassy hops. Finish is light, crisp with a clean cut aftertaste with no flavor. As light as they come.
