On tap at the brewpub 7/31/09: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet doughy dark caramel malt and some tart cherry fruitiness. Starts semi-sweet and biscuity dark caramel malty along with some mild Bavarian yeasty esters and a tart fruity balance with a touch of clove before the crisp bittersweet finish. Hazed ruddy color with a taller light beige head. Grainy bread scents along with some cocoa, over-ripe fruit, caramel and hints of wintergreen. Wheat and dark caramel flavors dominate. Some light light spice and dough flavors come in the middle. Fairly thin in the finish, with a touch of darker malt and wheat. Dark brown with hints of ruby, small off white head. Aroma is heavy roasted malts, light coffee, dark fruit, and light yeast. Flavor follows through, has a nice floral hop and bubblegum thing I didn’t get in the aroma. Tart and toasty finish, refreshing. On tap at the brewpub, pours very dark with very little head. Nose is lightly like charcoal, but that seems too weird so I’ll blame it on the smorgasbord of aromas that tend to permeate the air in a bar/brewpub/restaurant. Taste is at first stereotypically dunkel, lightly wheatey with some bananas and cloves. As it warms a bit, the initial taste remains constant, while it finishes more lightly ( see:watery). Aftertaste is a bit tart, but not unpleasantly so. Worth ordering one, but I’m not sure I’d order two in a night.

On draught at the brewpub in downtown Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a creamy off-white/beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of multi-grain dark malt, some toffee, a hint of chocolate and some ivory soap. Taste is medium bodied, very light in carbonation with flavors of dark wheat malt, some chocolate, floral hops and even a hint of tart berries. Finish is slightly metallic, with aftertaste flavors of toffee, chocolate, a hint of brown sugar and some floral hops. noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - APR 12, 2009
Pour is a deep hazy ruddy brown with a scant beige head. Aroma is a faceful of malt with a ctirus tang. Flavor is more fruity, weizen yeast clearly present, clove, banana, citrus, malt profile is lightly roasted with cider and brown sugar. Delicious, despite a slight rubbery note in the finish. Medium body, sparkling on the palate.
