Draft at GT. Deep unfiltered burgundy black. Thin beigehead. Sweet malty aroma, some chocolate. Oddly true to style, despite a watery, non-coalescing body. Odd amber malt tones, noticeable alcohol, the flavors don’t merge. You can tell what they were aiming for, but it just comes off a little too sugary and unrefined. Warming feel. Par at best, cbfobes (2883) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - NOV 4, 2011
On tap at brewpub, pours a dark brown with a decent off white head and some lacing, the aroma is heavy with the malt and a touch of caramel, the flavor is once again pretty straight forward with the malt and a touch of booze in the finish. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 21, 2011
On tap at Grumpy Troll. Poured deeper brown with not a lot of head sticking around. The aroma picked up drawn caramel, light smoke, and a fairly hefty dose of darker fruits.. the fruit got in the way a bit. The flavor found more caramel, some honey, a touch of molasses, and thankfully lesser fruit than the nose at the core.. lightly acrid smoke surrounded.. peppery earth joined on the tasty finish. Medium-bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. smooth for the most part, but a bit sharp from the smoke on the back.. overall a decent brew. crossovert (13080) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 14, 2011
A pretty standard wee heavy. It is a bit on the sweet and malty side for sure. arkurzynski (2446) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 17, 2011
Deep red and brown. Nice malt in the nose, some toasted and roasted malt, fruity. A little bit sweet and fruity. Some faint roasted malts. Easy enough to drink, but could use a little more body.
