anstei (2608) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - AUG 3, 2017
Bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker. Pours dark brown with a medium foam and some retention. Aroma is coffee and green peppers, roasted malts. Body is medium and pretty sweet, but still having that coffee bitterness that beer usually doesn’t have. Carbonation dampens sweetness quite well, making this surprisingly easy to drink. Softly sour, too.Still the balance does not quite work out. A good stout, but with some possible improvements.

hauxe (937) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - MAY 5, 2017
Pours very dark brown from the bottle. The tan head is thick and foamy, but soon subsides. Aroma is coffee, strong roasted notes, hints of chocolate, berry, and booze. Taste is mildly sweet up front, moving over to lightly bitter with tangy notes on the finish. Nice and pleasant, not a whole lot going on, but this is steady, reliable pleasant sipping. Something you could drink more than one of too without immediately toppling over. Medium body with relatively low carbonation. Good.

TaxiDriver (1830) - Stadland, GERMANY - MAR 16, 2017
A strong aroma of roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, some soy sauce. The small beige foamy head disappears fast, the body is black. A malty taste, coffee, light bitter. The body is medium strong, creamy and a little bit oily with a soft carbonation.

Zlotta (3814) - Hagen / Düsseldorf, GERMANY - DEC 29, 2016
0.33 l bottle from ’Biermuda’, best before April 2017. Clear, very dark red to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty aroma of lots of coffee, dark chocolate and some licorice. Slightly bitter, malty and quite roasty taste of lots of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and hints of dark fruits, followed by a medium long, rather roasty-bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, slightly creamy but rather effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very tasty, could be creamier, but overall really nice!

bartlebier (4123) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - DEC 13, 2016
(backlog summer 2016) 33cl buddelette. - Mild-mannered in aroma with atmospheric hints at fresh filter coffee, wood berries & the twigs they grow on and caramel vanilla, - then pushes through in flavour with delicate, layered filter coffee and crush coffee bean aromas. Quite light in mouthfeel, therefore smooth and near-sessionable for a stout, without veering off into German (lagered) stout wateriness, offering pleasant residual vanilla sugars. - A return to form for Gruthaus after having their actual Grut overcarbonated by a so-so Belgian contractor and the underwhelmingly shy Pumpernickel Porter.

Idiosynkrasie (7964) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - DEC 5, 2016
330ml bottle. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Slightly ephemeral, intense coffee aroma with chocolately and mocha notes, roasty dark malty basis with a salty and a liquorice touch; hints of wax turn up with the coffee notes fading away little by little. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, notes of cold coffee, moderately sweet, sugary undertones, hints of treacle; creamy to oily texture, soft, minimally sticky palate, lasting sweet finish.
