COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this ancient tradition with Gruut Amber Ale. Enjoy it’s rich taste, deep copper color, and smooth-drink-ability.

Russo (2011) - Hemhofen, GERMANY - MAR 13, 2014
Clear amber color with an off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt hints of coffee and caramel. Flavor is quite sweet with roasted malts and caramel hints. Low to medium carbonation with light sweet bitterness finish.

Ambrée claire, effervescence moyenne, col blanc fin persistant. Bien que le caramel l’emporte sur le reste, on notera la présence d’épices grâce auxquelles une amertume moyennement prononcée se fait plus que sentir.

Drank with Rik and Marijn at Cafe Hoegaarden 30/1/2014. Okay beer to start the evening. Light taste. It looks spicy, ’troebel’, in Dutch. Caramel taste. Good mix between bitter and sweet. Good beer, though lacks the depth and complexity of a great beer.

KyotoLefty (10264) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JAN 31, 2014
Bottle from Yamaichi. Fruity, spicy nose. Minerals, light citrus, grassy hop, dry caramel malt. Rather typical Belgian amber. Clear amber with a low, fine head. Sweet caramel malt, stone fruits, light orange, some minerals. Light and subtle, spices not overwhelming, nicely bitter finish. Decent stuff. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with all their beers so far.

ThirstyBird (2925) - Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 27, 2014
Pours a clear copper color with a tan head. The smell is roasted malt, spice, caramel. The taste is caramel, spice ending dry. The body is medium with average carbonation.

330ml Bottle at home on 19th January 2014 - Christmas gift. Pours deep copper with off-white non-lacing foam. Mild, malty aromas with some nuttiness. Malty in-mouth with plenty of caramel, butterscotch, rye-bread notes and touch of salt. Bittersweet finish with long lasting sweetness and cooked veg. Find carbonation and medium body.

Clear deep copper color, fluffy off-white head. Malty, bread crust, dry, herbal scent. Malty, toffee, spicy, fudge taste. Light metallic at first, then toffee aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.
