Very nice golden color. Good bubbles, weak head, no lace. Good flavor all the way around. A kick you butt ale, this is surprisingly good stuff! belgianhomebrew (646) - Acworth, Georgia, USA - APR 19, 2002
Crystal clear. Nice malty aroma, with little hop. Malty flavor, with a slight bitterness. Reminds me more of a Czech Pils than an Ale. Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - SEP 9, 2003
Nice straw color, small head that faded fast.Malty, hoppy aroma with a hint of fruit.malty taste with a mild sweet side but that later changes to a hoppy bitter taste, with a slight fruit side. The after taste is mostly hops and lightly bitter. Not a bad brew, definately better then some of the other Eastern European brews i've had. thedm (6308) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - AUG 2, 2007
This $3.00 bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a hazy softly carbonated light orange brown colored body and a very good lacing. The mild aroma was citriousy doughy and malt hop like. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of malt hops dough and orange peel.

Zhigula Ale 1 pint bottle. 1st taste was a bit on the harsh side but after that it went down smooth. Taste is reminscent of a more mainstream beer but what that would be escapes me at the moment. Well worth the $1.98 I paid for it. wheatbeerman99 (3) - USA - NOV 27, 2002 does not count
Just picked this up for $1.29 for a 16.9 fl oz bottle. I cant describe beer like some of these beer experts here. This beer has a little skunk in it like a lot of other green bottle beers. But Im confused on how this is an ale since I never seen an ale look, taste, and be in a green bottle.? I still am having a hard time believeing that this is 8.2% also. Ive had beers between 6-7% that tasted sweeter and stronger but zhiguly ale must really hide it well. Overall I would definatly buy this again for the price I payed. I enjoy certain green bottled beer with a little skunk like this but zhiguly has a very slightly different taste(8.2% but is this really correct?) but with a nice hidden kick!! aobecksy (700) - Middle of no where, Ohio, USA - JAN 10, 2003
Looks and taste just like applejuice, which i like. ........................ soulrefugee (46) - Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2001
These beverages from the former Eastern bloc countries are a new, inexpensive, yet adventurous foray into the unknown for me. You just never know what you'll get. The last time, I experimented with some very thick Porter, I can't remember the brand, from Poland. It was like some kind of Mogen David wine mixed with beer cheap tasting junk that had enough alcohol (8.0%) to get you drunk pretty fast, but the flavor was bad news. This time is different. Zhiguly Ale is pretty good stuff. Its alcohol taste come through, but not with the cheapness or bitterness. Its a unique taste, and has some malty smoothness to it. I enjoy it. And it was only 1.49 a pint. What a fun discovery. ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - APR 23, 2004
Basic lager aroma, but has European character. Hazy banana yellow in color with good visible carbonation. White head that is reasonably thick and slow to dissipate. Quite high in alcohol like a bock. Similar to Elephant and some Austrian bocks I've had. Better than the average lager. Good solid flavor. I had no idea what to expect from this beer and figured it would likely be a typically bland Eastern European lager. I was pleasantly surprised.
