12 oz bottle from Baruni’s in Baden, PA. A nice addition to the Guinness family and a good alternative if you’re not quite up to drinking a stout. Wonderful colors and rather smooth on the mouth feel.

Pours as dark at the stout with an off white head lacking the creamy look of the stout that quickly dissipates .Nose is roasted malt. Palate is medium body with crispness of a lager. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate. Indeed, ti is the lager version of the stout. 14.9 oz can in an 8 can variety pack.

Bottle at Belfast Airport. Pours a almost totally black color with a medium beige head. A light sweet caramel, toasted malt and light smooth nutty notes. The flavor is very much a Guinness product; smooth roasted malts, some hints of metal, caramel. Enjoyable.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours almost opaque mohogany with a medium beige head with decent retention; leaves some creamy lace. Aroma is pretty muted but a little bread shows through. Taste is bittersweet with a dry and somewhat salty finish. Has a wet river rock/mineral flavor in the finish. Crisp and refreshing. Average carbonation. It could be more roasty, but I like it.

11.2 fl oz bottle at Burger & Beer Joint, Miami Beach, FL. Sampled on January 22, 2012.
Dark reddish brown to black color, huge lasting tan head. Sweet, cream, a bit roasted scent. Roasted, malty, cream taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium low bitterness.
I’d drink it again given the chance.

Malty aroma has a smoky undertone and a firm yeasty note. It pours an opaque dark-chocolate brown with a thick, frothy, light tan head. Malty, smoky flavor has hints of molasses, licorice and coffee. Texture, unfortunately, seems to be on the thin side, though it has a good fizz. OK, but their classic stout is still the best. On tap.

11.2oz bottle. Cold brewed, how ’bout that. Mellow black malt aroma. Pretty much a straightforward Schwarz/Dunkel. Overly sweet, I’m not sure who they were thinking of selling this to. Not a bad beer, if I were in Germany. Distant smoked coffee tones, there is some nice roastiness. Some bitterness behind the chocolate notes. Enjoyable enough beer, just a mystery as to why Guinness would feel the need.

Poured from bottle. Continuing with the st patty’s day theme. Malt / sugar aroma. Solid black, light tan head. I taste roasted malt, a bit of hops, burnt caramel and honey (believe it or not!). Beer is kinda average, but the dark honey flavor I’m getting wins it more points.
