COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nitro-can, nitro-keg and nitro-bottle; Filtered
Usually called Draught; sometimes called Cold or Extra Cold - same beer, but served colder. Abv ranges from 4.1 to 4.3 % depending on where it was brewed (Guinness exports a hopped and concentrated wort to regional breweries who then brew it on site).
Launched in 1961.
Ingredients: Pale ale malt, about 25 to 30% flaked barley, and about 10% roasted barley, with no other grains or sugars; several hop varieties, mainly Goldings (pellets and isomerized extract); a flocculent head-forming ale yeast.

Bottle. An OK stout but I was expecting more. Dry and bitter but thin and lacking body. Sure looks good with a creamy nitro head and dark color. Its not expensive and you can get it anywhere. Maybe this works as a black & tan with Harp. Iíll try that next.

This is not a bad Stout but there are a lot better ones out there. I know many people who fall in love with this beer and think it is the greatest but that have not tried "the good ones." It is nice to get this on tap at a lot of places and it wouldnít be St. Pattyís day with out a Guinness with a shamrock.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2004 Pours out deep black with nice head. Nice mocha flavor, very thick and cream. Also really smooth. This stuff is great!! One of the best stout I ever had.

Overrated! Not bad if youíre in a restaurant with very little offerings, but letís face it...with many other great beers out there, this is just so-so, boring, and not very good.

I havenít had this since I started rating, 210-something beers ago. And Iíve concluded that this beer sucks. I used to love it, and now that I know better it really bites. Looks good, though: Near-black with a monstrous, thick, creamy, beige head. Aroma isnít even bad, though a little subdued: Chocolate, coffee. Flavor is rather gross, a bit like cigarette ashes; also some coffee grinds and light toffee. The most watery stout Iíve had, I think, and not nearly as thick as I used to think. The nitro gives it a little body, but not enough, though I suspect I might have a bad bottle here. Overall, except to try, or if itís the only thing your restaurant has thatís better than Budweiser, stay away from Guinness Draught.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2004 Chocolate coffee goodness, the texture and consistency is so smooth and creamy. This can go down perfectly with a formal dinner or just a night at the bars. Enjoyable, accessible, and extremely satisfying ... guinness is definitely worth every penny. Its versatility is its best characteristic. (dare I mention "Car Bomb"?)

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 Burnt, bitter coffee water. Period. Is this beer, or someones stale coffee? Wayyy overrated. Very disappointing!

Guinness is like a chocolate desert. Nothing beats the look of it though. The thick creamy head and pitch black color that you canít see through is unmistakable

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2005 Can and near ice cold. Beautiful dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and weak coffee, falvor basically the same with a fairly creamy mouthfeel and slightly bitter finish. Not complex, just plain yummy. Bottle, also very cold. Pretty good but seems a bit drier. Strange,as the beer warmed it had an odd flavor of coffee and old fishsticks. Never had that in the canned version so I took an avg on the rating.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2004 So good. Funny, though, the Guinness experience absolutely depends on where one has it. A lot of bars do not seem to have clean draft pipes and the beer seems skunky. Or, it is served up far too cold. This stuff is great. When oneís parent tells them that beer is an "acquired taste," well, Guinness is an acquired taste beyond that. Once you get used to it, itís a wonderful thing that is extremely easy to drink.
