Usually called Draught; sometimes called Cold or Extra Cold - same beer, but served colder. Abv ranges from 4.1 to 4.3 % depending on where it was brewed (Guinness exports a hopped and concentrated wort to regional breweries who then brew it on site).
Launched in 1961.

Pours black with a creamy head, goes down very smooth, but takes too long for the foam to go down.

dark brown, practically black hue, w/a creamy head, real smooth beer, really light coffee flavor....use to love it, now tastes like cold watered down coffee w/a hint of alcohol.

While nitrogen may hurt the flavor, itís definitely great to watch. Slowly settling from the pale creamy appearance to an opaque reddish brown, and thick smooth silky head of foam. Malty, roasty, cocoa aroma. Dry roasty hazelnut malt on the palate, moderate roasted bitterness in the finish, fairly thin in body. Used to be a great beer before I knew better, still a pretty good choice when in an Irish pub.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2009 Guinness feels perfect in your mouth. The flavor develops perfectly. Itís certainly the benchmark to which all other stouts are to be compared. Smooth and creamy, coffee and chocolate. This stout has it all. ^ Does it? Itís water...man how much ive changed in 5 years. This stout has a wonderful palate, thatís about it. Itís weak, thin, lacks flavor and aroma. Itís not even close to a great stout, although it has itís place and itís own great qualities....mainly chuggability.

Very little nose to this beer, just a whiff of coffee and the flavour is the same way: a hint of coffee bitterness on the finish of an otherwise tasteless beer. Though I like the creamy mouthfeel and the appearance of the guinness cascade. I hadnít had this in a while and dinít realize how tasteless it was.

over rated. strangely, people seem to give this beer top marks simply because it ílooks goodí which is only one criteria to be judged. extra cold it is tooth numbingly tasteless, and at although at normal temperature, i am sure there is some flavour desperate to emerge but its totally quashed. this is not a reflection of the Guiness in Ireland which i have never tried, but of the poor representation in most british pubs.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2005 Guinness what can i say. The king of stouts. Just looking at it makes my mouth water. How the brown turnst to black and the light head rises. The taste is great espically off tap. I always love "a lil drop of the dark stuff"

pours out about as beautiful as any beer. great head and lots of swirls as bunkypop stated. simply brilliant looking. taste is not there though. nothing even really notable about it, plain best describes it. did used to purchase it, just because it beats out the other macros and looks cool, but would not purchase in any other scenario.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2004 guinness draught serve extra cold bottle poured into a duvel tulip glass: appearance; might as well be perfect. "watch the glass fill with a swirling liquid that tumbles and surges eventually to seperate into a black liquid and a white head." the white head is really a light tan head. itís very tight and lays like a layer of film. itís too bad that when i go to drink from my glass it recedes back and all i sense is... ... ... flavor and palate; watery, tinny, ... this is weak. AND it fills me up. i smell more than i can taste. why is this suppose to be served extra cold? thatís right... because it lacks character. from the commercials and that shnifty label all the way to the pour... this brew is complete f**king image. screw it. i can only say that this very filling brew is not offensive and drinkable. UPDATE 7/7/04: so cold it's almost frozen, straight from the bottle; dry, roasty, and a little bit sour. thin yet filling. it's like an odd glass of flavored milk.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2004 When you get this from the right Tap, at the right time, under the right moon... Well itís about as good as it getts. However! It often comes across as thin, tinny, or just plain old íoffí. But let me say this, it is worth the hunt to find a great pull of this brew and to indulge often.
