3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2008 My first Guinness was a horrid bottled beer many years ago. Today’s version with the “widget” delivering something resembling a hand-pulled mouthfeel is a great improvement. The Draught cans still have a somewhat “fizzier” head than a draft pull, but at least the head is creamy and plays well with the roasty beer body. For sure, Guinness has become an American mega-brew, and craft brews surpass it in taste, but it’s still a fine session beer and an alternative to a horse-p*** pilsner.
Revision note: Oh yeah, good smoked peat taste in my latest can. Acidic, too. I’ve based my ratings on the pint “pub draught” cans that have been in my beer fridge for over two years now (one left), and it seems to have aged pretty well.

0,5l from tap at Hard Rock Cafe Vienna on St Patricks Day. black colour, small tan head. smells tobacco, licorice, earthy, bit grainy. ok smell. light body, quite light carbonation, decent mouthfeel. tastes of licorice, earthy, tobacco, but grainy. finishes lightly roasty and dry with notes of licorice, tobacco and earthy notes. decent but not overall special, too light.

Pours deep brown to black with a beautiful beige head. Nose is roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Taste is coffee, chocolate, and lots of malt. Very creamy and smooth. This is the original; if I’m judging on style it’s a perfect score. But to my personal preference, it’s just fine. It’s nice, light, and easily drinkable. I’d happily drink it all night long and, while, not being? blown away, wouldn’t be too upset.

Dark, dark brown almost black with a tan 1.5 finger head. Head retention is superb and watching the nitro pour in action is always cool. Thin creamy body with low carbonation.

Bardzo kremowe i nisko wysycone. Prezentuje się pięknie. W zapachu słody. Smak: smukły i lekki z wyczuwalną lekką kawą.

The beer looks perfect (if properly poured). Excellent beige head, and it tastes very nice. One of my favourite light beers - definitely worth the price.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
(440ml can) Aroma: Chocolate, caramel, a little bit like a dark lager. Not intensive at all.
Appearance: Dark, but not completely black, clear, good head - like always from nitrogen.
Taste: Little sweet and some bitterness is present too. It’s very blank. Little chocolate, some malt and caramel.
Palate: No body at all, thin texture, actually, long, bitter finish - which is nice. And it’s flat ofc.
Overall: That was weak, more like a water, black water with head. Probably beter than most mass beers, but still nothing particular.
