Labatts brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editors Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

1pt 6oz bottle. Pours clear black with minimal tan head and moderate grayish-tan lacing. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate, dark coffee. Taste of sweet coffee, malt, chocolate, quickly turning sour of grapefruit, long-lasting sour coffee taste. Would buy again.

De geur is al heel divers, met chocolade en gebrannde mout erin en de smaak is zeer goed, zeer rijk, terwijl ik normaal geen fan ben van stout. Dit is een aanrader

I had it from the bottle. The taste is chocolate, caramel, coffee, and bitterness. It has a nice full and creamy texture. This is a nice and simple stout.

Bottle. Nearly black pour with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, mostly grape and raisin, touch of chocolate. Taste is grape and raisin as well with a touch of roastiness, very simple, but also dry, balanced and easy-drinking.

Aroma: much more caramel-oriented aroma as opposed to the coffee aroma you get out of a Guinness Draught, reminds me of a slightly toasted flan dessert. Appearance: almost black and opaque with a long lasting tan creamy head. Taste: slightly bitter but overall well-balanced with the malt richness shining through. Palate: medium-full body, with a rich, creamy, pleasant mouthfeel. Slightly richer than Guinness Draught.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2016 Bottle that said "drink from the bottle ". Poured anyways. Dark brown, tan head. Light coffee, toffee aroma. Burnt/roasted malts, tame slight bitterness, faint mouthfeel. Formerly a more interesting beer in old-school times , less so now with all the craft availability.

Bottle at home to the dome. Pour is hazy brown with a small tan head and great lacing. Husky, cocoa, toasted malty, bready, straw, and licorice in the aroma. Taste is roasty, nutty, husky, corny, some cookie malt, toffee, earthy, and bready. Light mouthfeel with high carbonation. Bleh.

Sets the standard for all Irish stouts. Pours black, great cream head on nitro. Aroma of roasted malts, choc and toffee. Taste is always the same and great Mouthfeel is too light for me, but who am I to knock Guinness.
