If you were in a pub sometime between 1821 and 1970, chances are this is the Guinness you would have been drinking. Originally brewed as the XX version of our Porter, it’s hoppy, roasty, and crisp, with a bittersweet finish.

Hoppy. Bitter without any malt flavor. Khaki head with a dark brown color. Thin, but the fullness of a stout.

The looks of the beer are perfect. It has that ultimate stout appearance. The color of the beer is pitch black on the eye. A strong light reveals the typical ruby red glow of beautiful stout. The beer looks a bit cloudy, but it’s so dark, that it’s hard to tell. On top of the beer a nice layer of soft, creamy, almond colored foam is formed. The foam is very sturdy and doesn’t collapse. It forms a delicious soft layer. The smell is a little mild. There are more aromatic stouts available. There is nice fresh hoppy aroma, containing some aromas of fruits. It smells a bit of grapefruit. There is also a lovely bitter and salty aroma of roasted barley. The different aromas are delicious, I wished it was stronger. The taste is richer. It has the same lovely flavors. Roasty slightly salty and bitter flavors together with lovely sweet and bitter hop flavors. There are better stouts, but it definitely ain’t bad. The palate is good. The beer has a nice amount of tingle to it. Nice.

On tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, coffee and caramel. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, coffee, caramel and a hint of peat with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation.
