If you were in a pub sometime between 1821 and 1970, chances are this is the Guinness you would have been drinking. Originally brewed as the XX version of our Porter, it’s hoppy, roasty, and crisp, with a bittersweet finish.

Bottle. Nose is lactose, smoke, sweet malt. Taste earth, smoke, malt slight sour. Short sweet malt finish. It’s the best beer you can usually get from a bad place. Amazed I’d not rated it

Black with a lasting off-white head. Light roasted aroma with toffee and caramel. Dry, light roasted and malty flavour. Quite thin and slightly sour

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2017 (can) clear deep brown colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of barnyard and pale malts, with lots of manure and sugar icing. flavour is mostly grainy roasted malts, vanilla and chalk, slightly ashy, wih a touch of earth and a light roasted-bitter finish. medium-bodied with average carobnation.

Ziemlich dunkel, im Licht schimmert es aber noch etwas rot durch. Leider wenig Schaumbildung. Leicht säuerliches Aroma, Sauerteig. Milder Antrunk, cremige Textur. Gute Malznote, auch im abgang. Könnte insgesamt etwas mehr Körper haben. Gut trinkbar.

What can you say, its *&ing Guinness! I was recently in Ireland and drank 65 of these bad boys over a week; a feat I would recommend to everyone. Still love it, great head.

Bottle from a random shop in London, possibly a Sainsbury’s. Pours black with well-retaining tan foam. Pleasant sweetish roasty malty aroma. Tastes low sweet, more ashy and roasty dry, cheap chocolate and faint sugary notes. Feels a bit watery on the palate. Fizzy but very fine carbonation. Pretty good but kinda underwhelming. Wouldn’t mind downing a couple of pints of this in a pub when nothing better available.

Pours dark brown from the bottle. The head is tan and foamy. A sticky lacing clings to the glass. The aroma is very subdued with hints of smoke and roasted malt. Taste is very mildly bitter with touches of dark chocolate and licorice. The flavors feel lost against a watery palate. Finish is smokey but otherwise short and uneventful. I drank a fair bit of this twenty years ago and liked it, but I guess tastes change. Now it just seems boring.

Easily recognised the world over - Guinness in a bottle. Roasted malt and grassy hops and a slight chalkiness. Very drinkable but not great.
