Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Piwo metne w kolorze pomaranczowo bursztynowym z dosc obfita sredniopecherzykowa piana. W aromacie slody, dojrzale owoce, belgijskie drozdze. W smaku klasyczny Quad, chociaz moglby byc troche bardziej intensywny. Przyprawy uzupelniaja to samo co mamy w aromacie. Minimalna goryczka i wysycenie na wysokim poziomie.

330 ml bottle from Lidl, Antwerp. Malt, yeast and caramel aroma. Very sweet, strong boozy alcohol taste. Slightly bitterness. Nice dark amber colour and foam head. Heavy Quadruple, which is not easy to drink.

Bottled. Sweetness, alcoholic notes and some woody notes in aroma. Sweet, slightly alcoholic taste, like a stronger blonde ale. Softly csrbonated, medium to heavy on body. Decent, but not outstanding.

Bottle. Bronze and poured with a big head that was slow to dissipate. Sweetness dominates and it a bit of a sugar bomb. Plenty of strength but a bit one dimensional. Pleasant but i cant understand why it is so highly rated.

330ml bottle:
A surprising beer when poured & definitely lighter than expected, its easily one of the lightest quadrupels I think Ive tried. It had a nice sweetness to it, particularly the nose but the caramel that showed there seemed to fade, putting the beer as more of a Belgian pale ale at times. There was some lighter fruits & citrus that gave the beer its fresh, lively feel but it wasnt quite what Id expected; its still a very good beer though but Id go with the original over this version next time.

Pours hazy, orange, small foam. In aromas mostly alcohol, yeast, sweet. Fruity. Nice sweetness in mouth, fizzy.

Pretty hard to comment. Nice aroma, though mostly alcohol. Would like to feel some more fruits in aroma. Taste is sweet, caramel, dark raisins, malt. Some bitterness arrives later. Sweetness and warming continues till the end. I would tell this is not a complex beer, but rather simple and this simplicity makes it wonderful. Alcohol well hidden, pretty drinkable. Its my second time to drink this and it still suprises.

Mooie quadrupel. Hoogblond bier, met een krachtige schuimkraag. Fruitige toetsen, alsmede wat hout en een droog effect van de hop. Warme ervaring.
