Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Pours an orange with white head. Aroma of sugared berries. This beer is so sweet it puts wooly socks on my teeth. Taste is sweet caramel, more berries, biscuits, bread. So bubbly feels like champagne. A little is great, but too much and I think my blood sugar levels will be blasting through the roof.

Bronze golden color Quadruple. Little effervescence when poured. The head is not impressive, but overall appearance is nice. The taste is malty, but the finish is a slight yeast taste which lingers. Little hoppiness apparent and no sign of fruitiness. The aftertaste is a no joy for me, but the beer is a great complex malty flavor that would be better drunk with strong cheeses than drunk alone. A good Belgian, but not on my great list.

330 ml bottle. Garnet colored pour is topped by a large pillowy beige head. Intense dried fruit scent has notes of orange zest and brandy. Big bittersweet malt flavor has sweet dried apricot notes. Big warming alcohol sensation as well. Vinous malty flavor in middle. Chewy fruity malt finish is reminiscent of Cointreau.

Bottle from Lidl. Light body, big bubbles. Enjoyably tasty. A touch of orange, some barley sugar, a nose of hop. Good warmth. Blood, sweat, Werthers.

cereal, resin, dough, golden, amber, hazy, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, creamy, average carbonation, bitter, The appearance of the bottle is tricky beceause it predicts, that the beer is dark but its not.

Bottle. Cloudy orange, Offwhite rocky foam. Super sweet dark sugar aroma with a bit of fermenting fruit play. Full body yet fizzy. Sugary sweet entry, estery fruity notes - not particular clean ones either. Deceptively light on the palate, but I am not sure it covers the bum demographics well either. Pretty much booze with a few aromatics thrown in. Definitely not over 9000!

UPDATED: APR 5, 2017 Bottle. Reddish amber-orange color with nice head. Aroma is brown sugar, raspberry jam, apricots. Taste is estery, sugary, raspberries and apricots again, cloying. Warming finish, sugary sticky mouthfeel. High foamy carbonation. Definitely not my favourite, it mixes everything I hate about Belgian beer and not in the best possible way.

Almost perfect. Nothing bad.i simply have favs. The beer is totally drinkable, like whole bottle drinkable. The color is awesome, head robust, palate simply smooth and resplendent. The palate yields a hint of spice ever so cloyingly. Yummy good-gat-dayum. Well balanced beer. Impressive.
