Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

750 ml bottle. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Quality stuff. Great rich belgian taste. Flavors of yeast, fruit, and sweet malt. Aroma is banana and belgian yeast. The head pours somewhat thick and stays around the entire time. This is a top notch belgian. Almost like beer candy. High ABV, but hidden perfectly.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2018 Donker oranje-goud, iets troebel.

J'adore.

Bottle pour - cloudy with an apricot color. Typical aroma for a Belgian. Initially very sweet but balances out nicely.

Sampled from bottle at home. Slightly unclear golden with white head. Sweet malts, grains, caramel, yeast, orange peel fruity, spices, alcohol. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Full body and soft carbonation.

Rich caramel gold, thin head, champagne-like carbonation. Smell is rich with deep molasses, dark pit fruits, caramel, soy sauce, rich dark bread. Taste is deep, dark and delicious; fruitcake, caramel, molasses, like an abbey ale with a huge flourish of carbonation. Long slightly dry finish like champagne.

Got this one from the Christmas 6-pack. I missed it last year. The first one is quite aromatic, missing a bit on the taste but definitely worth tasting. Starting the holiday special beers on the right note.

Wow. Virkelig en god og spændende øl. Masser af velsmag og fylde. Ganske frisk i smagen.

Bottle. Buttery, light bodied (for the abv), and well attenuated. Good stuff but surprisingly clean and simple for a beer I was expecting to be complex. Warming alcohol finish.
