COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewmaster, Jef Versele, crafted this exclusive Gulden Draak Brewmasters Edition as a tribute to his grandfather Jozef Van Steenberge and the 230th birthday of the brewery. His inspiration came from his numerous trips to the United States and his deepest respect for the craft beer culture. This exclusive Gulden Draak combines the technology and the craftsmenship of the traditional brewing process. By letting the beer mature on whiskey barrels it gives it a distinctive and gental finish that you have never tasted before.

750ml bottle - pours a hazy orange with thin white head . Orange peel aromas are present along with some mild spice . Citrus and floral flavors are dominant with a faint sweet whiskey note . Moderately high carbonation . Finish is sweet . Pretty good , not sure if taste warrants the price , but glad I got to try it . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bootle @ Hugos w friends/Boilermaker. Appearance: pours clear amber with massive off-white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: brown sugar, alcohol, light wood, reds berries and spicy notes. palette: strong yeasty aroma, sparkling carbonation, medium to full body, average to notable sweetness, somewhat balanced by a medium bitterness, average to long duration and an oily texture. Overall: Quite good strong ale with barrel notes.

Appearance - warm and inviting golden color leaning more towards orange rather than yellow, with a nice big, foamy, pillowy head. Really pretty. Aroma - mostly the Belgian yeasty esthers leaning towards banana, clove, honey. It made me nervous as that banana-ness is my least favorite thing about the Belgians. I was pleasantly surprised, however. Taste - candy sugar, but not overly-caramelly. More of a honey than caramel, actually. Belgian yeasty esthers are there, but are way more subdued in their typical banana-hard-candy-ness that I was dreading. Definitely has some vanilla notes from the barrels which is a welcome addition as it really tempers the Belgian banana-y/clove-y esthers into something I can actually stand, indeed: into something which I actually surprisingly enjoyed. There is some alcohol in the mouth, but luckily not in that terpentine-y, pure-alcohol sense. Rather it had more of a cognac-vibe (probably from the barrel-aging), something which I definitely appreciated. Palate - thick, but not overly syrupy. A pleasant alcohol warmth, and does not burn in the throat. Overall - though I am not a fan of Gulden Draak, nor of Belgian beers that have that banana/clove-y character, this is a very welcome exception that I am going to attribute to the vanilla and the cognac vibes that I got from the barrel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually really, really enjoyed this. And I would definitely buy it again.

750ml bottle @ Alexs. Pours a hazy amber orange colour. Nose is caramel malt, biscuits, and some Belgian yeast. Flavour is upfront some metallic raisins, this profile is diminished quickly by a classic belgium maltyness with some raisons and sugar. Im really not getting much if any whiskey barrels. Nice mouthfeel and carbonation and overall this is rather smooth for the abv.

750ml bottle at Alexs. Bottled in March 2016. Aroma is fruity and malty. Same taste. Too malty and sweet without any barrel aging process evidence. Meh.

Corked, bottled 03/2016, from The Gull, North Vancouver
Cloudy golden color with generous head. Mellow aroma, some honey, delicate vanilla, and a hint of whiskey and cork. Lean but strong body, moderately sweet, with delicate blond malts, and some whiskey; a bit stale in the final.
Good.

Bottle - Butterscotch, light spicy grains and vanilla barrel notes. Cloudy gold with. Decent white head. Sweet apricots and pale malts with a touch of vanilla. Much like the original with apricot and vanilla notes.

On tap at Festival Belgijskega Piva in Ljubljana. Pours slightly hazy orange amber color, topped with a tiny off-white head. Very gentle nose, slightly fruits with a little bit of woodiness. Slightly yeasty start with fruitiness and whisky feel. Later on more vanilla and wood come alive. Actually lots of vanilla. Slightly spicy with well hidden alcohol.

Off white frothy head stayed well on a finely effervescent, copper coloured body. Malty, fruity, grapes & fig aroma. Smooth, tingly on the back. Medium bodied. Very rich tastes of stewed fruits, plum, malt, spirits & a long bitter/sweet finish.
