COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

I agree with the other review that said the beer does a very nice job of hiding the alcohol. Very smooth and slightly sweet taste. Good foamy head and amber almost reddish color. Would enjoy again.

This beer pours dark as night with a very white, long lasting, small bubbled belgian style head. It is very sweet and hides itís alcohol content better than any beer Iíve tasted. Very enjoyable to drink and say.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2008 330ml bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Pours deep garnet with a big foamy beige head. Smells of dough, cinnamon, & caramel. Lots of dark fruits in the flavor along with some spice and caramel sweetness. Alcohol is front and center, warmth is felt immediately. Finishes clean with lingering warmth. Quite delicious, my only problem comes from the cool looking, but impractical, bottle. You canít see where the yeast is, I think I must have wasted several sips for fear of pouring yeast.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2013 Amazing taste! It has a bready-caramel-burnt sugar taste to it that is striking. Starts sweet and fades to a doughy finish. Vineous dark fruit - sort of like a port. Just perfect amount of hops, slightly bitter finish. You get the warming sensation of the high ABV but canít taste it. The best beer Iíve ever tasted. I share this beer with other beer-loving friends and they all agree that itís one of the best.

A clear very dark amber colored beer, with a nice off white foamed head. An aroma of coriander, malt and a little bitterness. the taste is warming, some sweet of fruits and malts. Itís not to dry and it has a nice bitterness. It stays for a long time.

nice dark color with a weak head. Nothing much in aroma besides sweet. Taste alcohol and toffee.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2008 11.2oz bottle of awesomeness. Pours a mahogany brown with a very light tan head thats puffy and billowing. Nose is thick with caramel and fruits, a bit of hops on the nose which I guess is due to this being a triple by start. Taste is very very good, starts out light like a triple but alot of malt and caramel come through in the finish with a touch of hops and a suprisingly small amount of alcohol considering the ABV. A terrific BSA but a little on the pricey side. Tap: Tap at Redlight Redlight. Possibly one of the coolest tap handles I’ve ever seen. A huge Golden dragon. Much better on tap that from the bottle. But overall rating is about the same, maybe a 4.4 at best.

On draft at JeanRo Bistro.
Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. Smell is dark fruits, some sweetness and belgian yeast.
Taste is much the same, and itís very good. Very creamy, full on the mouthfeel. This stuff is fantastic. This is dangerously drinkable, you never notice the ABV. This is among my favorite Belgianís, right behind Pannepot and Rochefort 10. Delish!
