COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

330ml bottle. Hazy copper-amber body, big mocha head, good retention. Aroma of yeast, caramel, sour cherry, roasted nuts, raisins, leather, floral-herbal mix. Taste of caramel, sour cherry, spices, raisins, herbal bitterness. Sticky.

Had this on nitro tap. Pours a hazy amber with a foamy, creamy white head. Aroma is banana, clove, bubblegum, and caramel. Flavor is sweet dark fruits, caramel, toffee, and clove. Has a smooth and creamy body. Delicious.

Strong brown bitter ale with pleasant smell. In fact it is very Belgian, strong and tasty. I just don’t like its bitter taste.

Pours a beige coloured large foamy head. Has a coppery, light brown appearance. Dirty lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, malts, spices and dark type fruits. Flavours of roasted malts, dark fruits (raisins, plums) toasty and nutty malts. Hints of citrus hops but quite faint. Chocolate notes in the finish, with hints of caramel. Alcohol is just barely noticeable, nicely balanced. Full bodied, sweet and bitter well balanced. Puckering and chalky mouthfeel. Goes down very smoothly.

Bottle. Aroma- intensive dark fruits- figs and raisins, spicy notes and brown sugar. Dark copper, a bit hazy, with a high, beige head, which quickly reduces to a ring. Taste- the same, well-balanced and intensive combination. Medium-bodied, with a medium carbonation. Distinct, classy beer.

Vynikající strong ale, jeden z nejlepších černých piv, co jsem kdy měl. Masivní říz, bohatá kávovo-čokoládová chuť a hustá krémová pěna.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2017 Bottiglia 33 cL e teku, pub (Valhalla, Pavia). Retrogusto biscottato.

Okay, so, the bottle does stand out. Cellared for a few months after a happy acquisition at the neighborhood HEB. Obtained in the 750 ml version it is poured into a waiting tulip glass. It shows a very dark body with red highlights and gives a lasting head of tightly bubbled light tan foam. I lift the glass for a smell, dried fruit, a bit floral, all inviting to me. A drink, oh my, nice. I get plum, red grapes, bread, all with a welcome malty background. Warming up as I drink more, the alcohol is present but not pushy. Pretty doggone good.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2017 Une mousse bien épaisse. Une bière forte mais qui ne sent pas l alcool. Note de fruit confi et sucre.

It’d been years since I’d tried this brew. During that time I developed an appreciation of English style Barleywines. Wow! This Belgian Triple is a delightfully close cousin to EBW. Dark fruits, rich malt, wonderfully satisfying mouthfeel. Alcohol well subdued. Great sipper in the cold of winter....or, heck - anytime.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours murky ruddy brown with creamy khaki head. Scent is bananas and raisins. Taste is banana and sweet cream. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. A little bit boozy. A very good Belgian.
