Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours hazy amber with a butterscotch head. The aroma is of grapes, wine yeast, caramel malt, some roast. The taste is like a dry white wine initially, leading to pleasant sweet maltiness and a round, toasty-hop finish. This is weirdly winey, but really nice all the same. Medium body and medium-high carbonation seem to complement the beer. Weird but really nice.

very sweet in flavor, alcohol is prominent but actually really tasty and flavorful. dark fruits and toffee followed by boozy warming finish that all comes together really well somehow. almost no head for some reason. very complex flavors just all over the palate. really nicely done, very satisfying.

Appearance: Pours a thick opaque dark brown. Thick had that dissipated quickly. Aroma: Lots here, wow. Caramel, butterscotch, cherries, raspberries, strawberries. Hints of vanilla and banana. Palate: Thick. Creamy, slightly oily. Smooth finish, medium fizziness. Taste: Sweeeet. Strong alcohol taste. Taste is as complex as the aroma. Damn. I love you Belgium.

Bottle from Lidl. Intense Belgian yeast nose, sweet and spicy. Taste is very sweet, not very malty, barley sugar. Palate is soft and easy. Dangerously drinkable and deceptively strong

Nice beer that balance the high ABV with a malty body and tons of flavour in a good way.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter a earth brown with a small head. the nose is carmel, nuts and dark fruits especially cherries. It is smooth but also pretty hard hitting and the 10.5 percent alcohol can be picked up. Some spices stick to the palate along with the alcohol. All in all a very nice quad.
