COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Nice look, decent aroma but thats it. I didnt enjoy this ale at all. The aftertaste had a slight metallic taste which totally turned me off. I barely finished this one. Pretty sad when a Canadian brewery makes a better tasting Belgian Strong Ale(Maudite).

Reminiscent of Chimay Blue, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Caramel malty nose and flavor with grilled pineapple and peaches on the palate. Excellent beer and I would definitely drink it again.

26. 10. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. Aroma is somewhat soury. Dark colour with big head and strong retention. Taste is, however, not sourz at all but predominantly malty sweet and barely noticalbe hops if any. Even finis and aftertast pull strongly towards the sweet side. Very pleasant to drink it. ABV is well hidden, although it warms you up a bit in the end. Fullbodied, high carb, silky mouthfeel.

Aroma: yeast, bubblegum, grass; Appearance: hazy crimson, medium creamy head; Taste: medium bitterness, medium sweetness, slight sourness; Palate: oily texture, long finish, full body, soft carbonation Heavy Belgian ale with red fruit aftertaste going straight to the head :-)

Cloudy dark beer with a huge lasting fluffy head, the aroma hits you whilst pouring- big and toffee / malty. The flavour fills the mouth - it’s burnt (but nice) malty, fudgey, alcohol and sweet.

Unmistakably a big Belgian. Strong with a bold flavor that is sweet in a good way. Fruits in the flavor but also, excuse me for using the word, red wine.

Pours dark white with small off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits, plums, chocolate, dried fruits. Incredibly rich. Taste is sweet with medium sweet finish. Alcohol warms and creats nice sensation on palate. High carbonation, high body. Very rich, great ale.

kreepindeth (404) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA - MAY 9, 2007
Yeasty metallica aroma. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin with noticeable, almost fusel alcohol and some metallic bite. Bittersweet to the core. I was expecting better out of this one.

Dark mahogany coloured beer with a white somewhat soapy head. Aroma of apple, maplesyrup, brown sugar, caramel. Sweet carameltaste. Hints of wood and fruit, like caramelcovered apples. (too) High level of carbonation. Turns alcoholic but not as much as expected from a 10.5% beer. Nice brew.
