COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Another great offering from our Belgian friends. Surprisingly smooth for the ABV. Very drinkable. Would definitely order again.

Sweet pleasant aroma. Huge head, dark amber color. Opens up sweet and spicy, middle is more malty. Finishes warm with a slight alcohol tang. The herbal spiciness does a good job at hiding the heavy alcohol content, and a couple of these will get you rather drunk...

Nagyon finom sör. Fantasztikus gyümölcsös illat. Szép, bronz szín, fehér hab. Közepes szénsav. Nagyon jól kiegyensúlyozott ital.

Yeast forward sour smells. Pours a dull brown and head goes immediately. Tastes ripe and sour with leather and raisins flavors and some alcohol. Short finish and mild carbonation. Not bad but not great.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2013 Una deliciosa cerveza Belga, estilo único, Casi un Barley Wine... Aroma refinado, elegante e intenso. Pasas, ciruelas, notas herbales y final vinoso. Excelente cerveza Belga!! Excelente aroma, retrogusto delicado pero elegante.. Simplemente excelente..

33cl in a Trappist glass. Pours a dark reddish amber colour with a reasonable head that disappears quite quickly. Very much an after-dinner drink almost barley wine like in richness with caramel and occasionally a hint of liquorice. Very rich and definitely a sipper.

I’ve been meaning to try this for awhile and it was on sale at BevMo so I figured why not? Aroma of plum, fig, toffee, raisin, earth, and slight basement aromas. Pours reddish dark amber, almost ruby red/brown, a very unusual color, with a nice thick white head that maintains and leaves chunky lacing. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel/toffee and fruity, spicy yeast, this beer is all about the malt and yeast. This is not an average beer, it is more like an aperitif, a slow winter sipper, and here I am drinking it in the September heat. I think it is best paired with food to complement the complex malt and yeast profile. Full bodied, thick texture, somewhat syrupy, soft carb., and long sweet finish. This beer will kick your ass if you drink a whole 750 ml. It is something for a special occasion but not a "go to" Belgian ale.

Pours dark brown with decent white head. Sweet flavour includes barley and brown sugar, and is rich and full of flavour. Lovely beer

This beer pours a dark amber (mahogany) color. It first pours with no head, but quickly turns into a thick, white foamy head. The aroma is that of a very sweet malt - very nice. Possibly some fruits in there as well. The flavor is wonderfully odd - very refreshing. It has a sweetness to it with just a tiny bit of spiciness for the perfect blend. The high alcohol content is very well masked and almost non-detectable. The aftertaste is a little sweet malt that lingers on the tongue for a fully enjoyable experience.
