Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

bottle. Poured murky dark amber with a thinning tan head. Boozy aroma, brown sugar and spice. Full body, prickly carbonation, syrupy mouthfeel. Sweet malty base, notes of toffee, roasted barley, whiskey barrel, spicey with a touch of alcohol.

It pours a dark amber unclear beer. A medium to big sized off white to beige creamy beautiful almost long lasting head. Aroma is Sweet caramel, yeasty, dried fruits like figs, cinnamon, slightly spicy and alcoholic. Flavor is sweeter than expected but still ok. Caramel and yeast is very present throughout the end. Dried figs, average bitterness and medium to long finish will tingle your tongue with a good medium carbonation. Aroma is more complex than the taste, though its still a delicious beer. In conclusion its a good beer but lacks a little bit in complexity considered the high abv. So while I like this one, Chimay blue is a better alternative .

750ml bottle. Wow what a beer! Smells sweet fruity barley nose. Some plums also. Golden bronze in color with white foamy head. This beer is very well balanced.with the tastes of plums and barley. Medium carbonation. Smooth as velvet. This is one of the greatest beers I ever drank! Share with someone special.

I drank it a bit early on a Sunday morning, but it is a magnificent brew. The whiskey flavour could have been a bit stronger and the aftertaste was a bit weak.

0.33 l bottle. Pours deep brown with everlasting white head. Very pleasant aroma and taste just like a strong Belgian ale should be. Well made.
