COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

On tap: poured a dark murky brown with medium head. Aroma: dark fruits, sourdough bread, cocoa and coffee bean. Similar in taste to smell; with a slight woody and tannic aftertaste (Im guessing that is due to the wine yeast). Definitely a must try.

Bottle.Dark brown with a massive head that took time to dissipate. In your face sweetness is one one and only impression of this beer. One dimensional although I have no doubt that I could develop an attraction for it. But I am not going to.

Alebarasi (81) - Dobrova, SLOVENIA - APR 14, 2017
Haz ruby/copper color with a large, creamy and long lasting beige head. Medium body, medium to high carbonation, some lacing. Aroma of caramel, cognac, molasses/brown sugar, Christmas spices, dried and candied fruits, esters, figs & dates, and some honey & bread. Taste of dried fruits, whiskey, roasted malts, brown sugar, yeast, toffee, wet hops, black tea and some vanilla. Balanced bittersweet tones, creamy mouthfeel, proper alcoholic finish. Absolutely delicious strong ale.

Everyone uses "boozy" on here like an epithet but for me it works in some beers. Were drinking alcohol yall. Anyway, pours real pretty drinks real smooth refreshes real good, like that dragon.

Served from bottle into glass at home. Pours ruby brown in color, medium high clarity, with large, long lasting tawny colored head. Aroma is a mostly dried fruit, like raisins and cherries with some caramel malt. A small amount of alcohol aroma is detected. No hop aroma is detectable. Flavor is more dried fruit and caramel, no dark roasted flavors but a more mellow maltiness, like a Marzen. No hop flavor detectable. Very minimal alcohol flavor at the end. Medium body with medium high carbonation. Overall this beer is fruity, boozy and slightly sweet, with a dry finish. All of the characteristics are very well balanced, producing an extremely drinkable 10.5% beer. It may lack a little of the richness and complexity expected of Belgian beers like the Trappist ales or other quads, but still very interesting and enjoyable.

0.33 bottle. dark clear brown, medium beige head. Aroma is liquor wine, caramel, alcohol, dried fruit. Low carbonation, a touch too sweet. Taste follows the nose, with malt driven flavors. Nice strong one.

Rumbero (75) - Miami, Florida, USA - APR 6, 2017
Cellared 2013 Bottle: Aroma: Bold caramel and toffee, raisins and plums, estery earthy yeast. Appearance: Pours amber/brown with a nice 1/2" thick tan head with decent retention. The beer is opaque and maybe a bit darker at the bottom, probably due to sediment accumulation. Minimal lacing observed. Taste: complex combination of strong sweetness (caramel, toffee, candy sugar), dark fruits (raising dominating), med-heavy bitterness and some vinous notes. Almost tart. Palate: medium bodied, rich, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and significant astringency at the back of the palate. Finish is sweet and malty with lingering astringency and a slight alcohol burn. Overall: this is complex Belgian beer. after aging, remains very complex. cannot say it has "mellowed" but is still drinking strong and assertive! #respect hahaha

First time Ive tried this beer. Impressed with the aroma and how smooth it was for a beer that comes in at 10.5%
