Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottle Beer Bistro. Nice dark pour with a strong malty spicy aroma. Definatly a heavy beer. I can really taste the alcohol in it. That is normally a minus for me but this time I think its a real throat warmer. Id drink it again.

On tap at Brasserie Beck, Washington DC on 08-Mar-2017. Brown with a large fluffy long-lasting off-white head. Aroma of spices, dark fruity and malt. Full body and medium carbonation. Heavy sweetness on the palate. Caramel, molasses, fruit, Belgian yeast and spices - almost Xmas pudding like. A classic, but too sweet for me.

Bottle from Dranken Geers. Slightly murky red to orange brown beer with a large off white head, which dissipates to nothing. Nose is very sweet, oranges, orange liqueur, barley sugar, earthy, citrus, tropical fruit, toffee, bread, caramel, candy sugar. Taste is caramel, vinous, barley sugar, orange citrus, bread, orange peel, floral. Body is sticky and sweet, unctuous. Bit of hop bitter in the finish.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a bright slightly murky brown with a very small off-white head. The aroma is malt driven with a noticeable alcohol presence. The taste is malt and alcohol. A really good beer, you have to be in the mood to drink a strong ale to fully enjoy it.

0.33l bottle from Lidl. Warm dark brown body with a hint of red. Thick, long lasting beige head. Amazingly intense and seductive aroma of dark fruits, raisin, berries, banana. Taste is similarly seductive. Very much on the sweet side, dominated by the same fruits. Some caramel and nuts are also detectable. Alcohol is present but very moderate considering the high alcohol content. Some Belgian yeasts try to balance the sweetness, with moderate success. Silky mouthfeel with mild carbonation. Aftertaste initially very sweet, but later turns alcoholic and a bit even bitterish. Clearly a dessert beer. The best Van Steenberge beer so far and a remarkable Belgian beer in overall.

Birra dal colore ramato scuro. Schiuma abbondante e persistente color color caffellatte.

Deep brown body with a huge, beige, long-lived head that laces the glass well. Strong aroma that initially feels a bit dusty and chalky, but after a couple of minutes delicious notes of Belgian yeast start emerging. Also dark caramel and dark dried fruits. Very strong flavour of powerful Belgian fruity and spicy yeast, dried fruits, caramel and brown sugar. Full body and moderate carbonation. A truly wonderful beer!
