COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

330cl bottle. Pours dark red, almost brown with an off white, long lasting head. Sweet aroma with some sour-esque belgian yeast smell. Flavor is malty, alcoholic and rich with the characteristic belgian yeast taste. Hops balance it all very well. A very good quad, although my personal preference would still go to the Urthel Samaranth.

Bursztynowy kolor, piana szybko opada. Słodkie, wyczuwalny, ale nie przeszkadzający alkohol, goryczki brak. Do wolnego popijania na długie wieczory.

330ml bottle pours dark brown with generous foamy off-white head. Aromas of brown sugar, dried fruit, spices and floral characters. Tastes of malt, yeast, dates, raisins, liquorice, spices, and a good smack of alcohol. Big and enjoyable, but perhaps not as layered as other Belgian Strong Ales and doesnt hide the alcohol as well.

Bottle, didnt catch the date, drunk 4/8/17.
Clear, bronze-copper with a beige head atop that is initially large but shows low retention.
Sweet and malty in the nose with brown sugar, raisins, brown bread and tons of caramel. Strong pepper phenols, doughy yeast, and almost a citrus peel-like acidity mixing with strong alcohol vapors.
Rich and malty, with a somewhat tired texture of soft, almost mushy caramel-raisin. Warming alcohol cuts through the body and its not quite cloying, though I just find so little of interest here aside from copious caramel malt character, obvious candi sugar, booze and peppery, clove-accented phenol. It is clean, though, which is kind of a huge victory in this brewerys case.

Sa pisut liiga soojalt joodud, aga nii jhkrat alkoholi poleks ikka pidanud tundma. Nagu lu viinaga. Ja ega palju muud midagi polnudki.

Copenhagen 2/5 2017. 33 cl bottle from Hkeren. White bottle with golden Dragon. Actually it looks like some kind of robotic creature. Pours hazy orange amber with huge yellowish head. Settles as fat creamy layer several centimeters thick. Lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is sweet. Caramel, fermented fruit and alcohol. Reminds me of a Rumtopf. Quite strong carbonation and thick palate. Flavor is heavy sweet without being cloying. Only light bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet brown sugar, tofee and candy. Lingering. A very sweet but very good Belgian.

Good balance of sweet and sour, dried fruit, wine, spice. Full bodied and smooth. A rich and balanced beer, very good.
