Bottle shared at home. Clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, ripe dark fruits, sugar and cardboard. Flavour is heavy sweet. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared at kermis'. Courtesy of Maakun. Dark brown with offwhite head. Big sweet malts, cardboard, brown sugar, ryebread, water, lots of water. Big sweet and not bitter. Thin body and soft carbonation.

Maakun (6709) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - SEP 9, 2017
Bottle shared at kermis' Asian food festival. Clear mahogany with beige head. Sweet caramel, sweet red fruits, raisins, bread and lots of sugar. Very sweet and really light bitter. Almost medium bodied. This is just not a great beerstyle but this is not a terrible beer, probably one of the best in the style.

huineman (734) - Madrid, SPAIN - AUG 11, 2017
25 cl bottle at a terrace right on the corner of the Sint-Servaasbrug, overlooking the Meuse on a sunny day. Wonderful setting, terrible beer: it pours nicely clean maroon with a thick tan head that wanes rapidly. Aroma is very low: just some cocoa, some cola, a hint of rhubarb. So far nothing horrible. And then, you take a sip: cloying, but not even on the sugary side, but on the artificial sweetener’s. Not enough acidity to make it feel fresh, really watery... Finish is, again, cloying. No trace of bitterness to level things up. Very bad.

Zlotta (4135) - Hagen, GERMANY - JUN 29, 2017
On tap at ’De Klep’. Clear, dark brownish red with a thin, dense, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty aroma of mainly caramel, some nuts and slightest hints of chocolate. Very sweet, malty, bready and slightly roasty taste of lots of caramel, nuts, toasted bread and Cola, followed by a short, slightly bitter, bready and a bit roasty finish. Almost medium-bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice Dutch Oud Bruin, way better than Heineken for example, probably also way better than from bottle as well.

Kleur is vrij donker. Aroma: Je ruikt wat karamel, maar voornamelijk is de geur extreem zoet. Smaak is zeer makkelijk te omschrijven: Donker suikerwater.

JefVerstraete (3739) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - SEP 29, 2016
Bottle in Valkenburg. Dark brown, beige foam. Very sweet nose, almost only caramel. Very bad.

kingstoni (2171) - FINLAND - JUL 10, 2016
Bottle. Deep amber color with a thin frothy beige head. Aroma of caramel and butter. Very sweet taste, toi much for me. Medium body.

This has nothing to do with the Flanders Oud Bruin that’s brewed in Belgium, and is, in fact, quite the opposite, in terms of styles, aside, maybe, from the somewhat similar colour. Very sweet and malty (from what I understand, sweetener is added during the brewing process), with no trace of bitterness or sourness of any kind.

suurjuust (3839) - ESTONIA - SEP 11, 2015
Brown beer, beige soapy head. Nose is sweet and sugray, malt notes, grain, caramel. Flavor is sweet, dried fruit, caramel, grain and mild toast notes and oh boy is this thin.
