Malvern Hill is the common name for this variety of pear, because the trees are said to grow as tall as the Malvern Hills. However, its correct name is the Moorcroft Pear. The pears, which are large and yellow, rot quickly and need to be harvested as soon as they fall, making it difficult for the perry maker. In the 1800’s, when Britain was at war with France, perry became the "Wine of England" being popular amongst the labels of high society.

Beautiful clear deep pale straw golden body; Incredible nose with lots of both depth and fill, a near perfect constellation of dense almost petrol like perry aromas, mellow yeasts and the dense but light harshness from the peel; Incredible body, velvet soft oily texture some sweetness the its not the least vulgar but has lots of freshness to it is super balanced with a very dry yeast peel like harshness; The dry part continues with great length in the finish, again with the sweetness near perfectly on the side, perry meat and lots of peel aromas, even a very light barrel touch that gives an almost smoked touch very late in the finish. Thanks Fin - The Cider (Perry) provider!!!

Bottle 750ml.

Clear light to medium yellow colour with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy pear, sweet pear, light celery and barnyard, cheese notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and light light acidic with a average to long duration, dry. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat. [20111105]

Bottle, 75cl. It’s an almost colorless perry, some yellowish tints though. Clear. The aroma is on the fruity side, pears and apples, and some farmyard hints. Some sulphur notes in both aroma and flavor. Else there’s pears dominating the flavor, something I don’t recognize blends in. It’s quite sweetish too, medium to full bodied and quite oily. A decent perry, but not very interesting. 111105

From bag in a box at Green Berry Walmer. pale geen. Probably slightly on the turn. Some vinegar but still decent fruit. Sugar is there too. cant say I enjoyed it but it had some good points

Bottle from Tanner’s Wines, Hereford. Slightly hazy, pale gold with a small amount of short-lived carbonation. Big, sweet pear juice aroma with some yeast character and touch of wood. Flavour was also dominated by attractive sweet pears, with some accompanying spice, and a touch of sugar in the finish. An excellent sweet perry.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Southampton Arms.
Wow wow wow. This is excellent stuff. Amazing hazy lemon yellow colour. Massive freshly pressed pears on the nose. Incredibly juicy yet dry in the mouth. Just the right level of fruit and wood. Effortlessly drinkable. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon are just about perfect. Absolutely outstanding stuff.
