COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our porter, The Favourite, enhanced with a subtle addition of star anise. This addition gives the rich and fruity porter an extra complexity with a gentle hint of liquorice.

ansalon (4314) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - JUN 24, 2017
Pours black with a massive frothy tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted nuts, roasted malt, citrus, fruity notes. Taste is chocolatey and roasted with spice notes and citrus notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation and quite creamy.

allmyvinyl (11328) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 9, 2016
500ml bottle from the Brewery Online Shop. Pours black with a very thin white head. Looks flat. Aromas of chocolate, liquorice, cold coffee. Taste is more of the same. Easy drinking, but lacked condition.

3.5
Grumbo (4599) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - SEP 5, 2016
Bottle shared with D&C at the 1st Ipswich bottle share (West Country themed). Pours a very dark brown with a mid sized tan colour head. Aroma of aniseed, roasted chocolate, and toffee. Quite light sweetness, strong roasted bitterness. Medium/full bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Finish is dry with lasting aniseed.

3.5
imdownthepub (15669) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 7, 2015
Bottled, 500ml from Shaftesbury Wines, Shaftesbury, Dorset. Black with slight slick of off white head, fairly flat. There is a big, fruity aroma on opening and quite a thick pour. Quite a heavy palate, darkly roasted malts with a slight chalky note along with a light spicy character. Some bitterness. Decent.

4.3
ladnewton (2099) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 19, 2015
Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 25th August 2015. Black sepia with slowly reducing off white foam. Intense roasty malt aroma. Roasty in-mouth with touches of fruit and liquorice before an intensely rich and bitter finish sets in and lasts. Engaging texture and plenty of body.

14th October 2015
Bottle on holiday in Lyme Regis. Mild gusher. Opaque black - brown beer, big fluffy pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good carbonation. Mellow but tangy dark malts. Licorice. Touches of lactose and coffee. Little dark fruits. Light finish. Not bad, but just another porter.

3.6
downender (9065) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - OCT 11, 2015
Cask-conditioned at the Hope & Anchor, Bristol 10/1/2015. Near black in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. Liquorice, a hint of aniseed, dark chocolate, toasted malts, some prune and a dryish finish. Complex, pleasant, drinking.

3.4
HogTownHarry (7309) - Toronto (Harbourfront), CANADA - AUG 25, 2015
September 12, 2014 - at Southampton Arms; handpull. Was surprisingly similar to the previous one, Magic Rock Dark Arts - black, tan head, coffee/chocolate aroma and taste with anise and fruit more in the taste - this one was lighter of body and alcohol, although it apparently has the higher ABV (?) - slick, a little still, quicker-finishing with less tartness in the linger. Decent enough, a little thin.

3.6
evergreen0199 (3641) - Northwood, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2015
Cask at Ealing Beer Festival 2015, Ealing, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige bubbly head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, liquorice. Nice porter.
