A tribute to ’Spéciale Belge’
We brew this amber beer as a tribute to ’Spéciale Belge’, an authentic Belgian style of beer that has existed since 1900. Our ‘Speciale 1900’ has incidentally been recognised as a Regional Product of Flanders since 2009.

Almost no head, amber colour. Didn’t really stick to it’s promise of a bitter finish. Rather blend speciale

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUL 16, 2016
Light malty, light brown sugar, touch woody, hopless. Bit kolsch like. A very odd style and this is a typical if not quite clean example. I enjoyed it still, but not going to rock your world. (On tap at the brewpub)

kermis (12870) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - APR 9, 2016
Bottle shared. Clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some fruity hops and peach. Flavour is light to ligt moderate sweet and bitter. Above light bodied with light carbonation.

Desverger (11122) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 20, 2016
[email protected], Copenhagen - Amber pour with off white head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, some caramel, treacle, light subdued dried fruit, overall a little watery and weak for a Belgo ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

joergen (27984) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 12, 2016
Draught at Taphouse. Clear amber colored with a medium sized white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, hay and spices. Sweet and fruity flavor of caramel and spices with notes of hops and soap. Spicy finish

harrisoni (18437) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 8, 2016
On tap at Old Shades Whitehall. Clear mid brown amber colour lasting beige head. Some apple peach ester on aroma. Very light Belgian ale. Some fizzy carbonation. Not much hop. OK but distinctly average.

Hamirubi (587) - Waarschoot, BELGIUM - FEB 19, 2016
25cl draft at Het Verdronken Land, Ghent (18 II 2016). This special belge is a red brown looking ale with a notable grain and malt nose. The collar is small beige coloured. The taste itself is rather flat, coming from the low carbonation and the thin watery body. Some flavours really are too subtle. There are some pleasant almost soury hints in the beer as well. Classic special belge... with a faint palate though, I’m afraid.

1.5
nathanvc (449) - Brugge, BELGIUM - JAN 30, 2016
UPDATED: MAY 15, 2017 Pours hazy dark orange/brown with a minimal head. Faint aroma of malts, hay, grains, some yeast. Light sweet to light bitter. The palate undermines every aroma, though. Light body and thin, watery mouthfeel. Metallic finishing. Very bland. Nothing "speciale" here.
