This really is a strange beer indeed. When pouring it has no head at all, and there’s hardly any carbonation going on. The aroma is powerful, the most striking smell is of smoke and roasted malts, juniper, and the deep mystical forests of the Nordic countries. It takes me back to marshy mountain areas where I used to go fishing as a kid. The taste is dominated by smoke and the roasted malts, juniper, spices, it’s a little sweet, a little acidic, it’s much like tasting what the woods smell like, and it reminds me of that harsh smell of sheep in a barn. Although there’s a lot going on in there I couldn’t quite pick up the honey. It is very very strange. The palate is very dull, no carbonation at all, I think it would have been more pleasant if there was some. All in all it was very difficult to finish, I think they should have sold this in a 0,25 bottle to be honest. Interesting to taste, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

Black with a brown head - Aroma of malt, smoke and peat - taste of roasted malt, berries, smoke - long lingering taste that is not good - Did not like this one

gunnfryd (14972) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 16, 2012
Bottle at Haandfestival 2012. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is sourness, horse blanket, roasted malt, juniper, herbs. Flavour is sournes, roasted malt, juniper, coffee, fruit, berries. Strange, but also a nice beer.

yngwie (17078) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 15, 2012
Bottle, at HaandFestival 2012. It pours an unclear, dark brown body under a small, dark beige head. Cellar, ripe hard cheese, some beef stock, dark caramel and a little roasted touch. Lightly roasted flavor with some cellar and dried fruits, and a damp forest-like touch. Full-bodied and semi-sweet on the palate. Well, sort of pleasant, but I’m not convinced. Rating: 6-4-6-4-12-3.2. 120504

Bottle. Had this one again, four months after my first sample. It’s a beer that has improved quite a lot, the aromas and flavors are more mellow and integrated, and the juniper is present, replacing the damp forest touch found earlier. It’s still good-looking, although a bit murky. Dark brown in color and with a dark beige head of moderate size. Full-bodied. Roasted, sort of woody finish. Nice, certainly well worth a revisit. 120914

marcus (10337) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 7, 2012
Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours murky brown with no head other than a few bubbles and a smoked malt aroma. There is a strange smoky berry flavor with lots of juniper. Unique but not real tasty,

Tap at Haand Festival 2012. Hazy amber body, small whitish head. Aroma is spicy, with caramel, forest, some smoke. Taste is sweet and spicy, with honey, smoke, dark malt, red berries. A very special and good beer, yet really strange.

bb (9519) - Alamo, California, USA - AUG 30, 2012
Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a low tan head. Lingonberry and smoke aroma. Juniper and lingonberry flavor with peat and nail polish. Medium bodied. Lighter carbonation. Juniper and lingonberries linger with peat, nail polish, and burnt rubber.

bhensonb (15351) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 27, 2012
Bottle from the Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours prune juice with bubbles for head. Aroma is sort of dark fruit and twigs. Body is a bit thinnish - but there’s some dark fruit thickener and it’s so smokey that any small blemishes are covered. Think I get the cranberries and juniper, but I could wish for more of both. Heck I even think there’s something with the same taste effect as chocolate. Certainly interesting. Tasty. Different. etc. etc. etc.

visionthing (5410) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - AUG 27, 2012
50cl bottle at Grünerløkka mat- og mikrobryggfestival. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of dried fruits, smoke, caramel and malt with some wooden notes.Smoky and lightly sour without much bitterness. Strange and interesting. (2012-08-25)
