COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.
This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the Hand brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2012 Tap at 4:20. Dark brown pour with a thick, beige head. Ashy, dry roasty malts on the nose, subtle cocoa. Great flavor, not overly sweet, plenty of cocoa, toasty and roasty malts, ashes, slight beef jerky, mild smoke. Full in body with average carbonation. Warm, light smokey finish, peat, cocoa, coffee. Great beer. (4.3)

On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours black with a creamy, beige head. Dark malt nose, some licorice, candied sugars. Big sweet flavor sugary chocolate, dark sugars, faint roast. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Modest warmth to finish, rich dark sugars, some sweet chocolate. Nice stuff. (3.8)

Batch number 60
Black color; beige, big but fizzy head. Strange aroma mixing light feelings of malt, caramel, roasted malt, cardboard, grass, manure. The mouthfeel is quite dry, with medium strength; there is a lot of roasted malt, caramel and liquorice flavor. The final as well could not be else than bitter with roasted malt and liquorice. Not the top of the list.

Koelschtrinker (19716) - Kln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 22, 2011
Komplexes, sehr aromatisches Bier Spitze! 11/13/12/14/12/14

500ml bottle from GBBF (I think). Yep, well thats a black coloured beer then with a thick tan head. Big impy stout aroma. Big bitter choc, espresso coffee, not so much hop as some. Just a bit over carbonated. Lots of choc. Not sure the whole works. A little bit oily, soy sauce. Some charcoal, very intense. Some good hop on end. Good pepper.

Bottled (batch #60, brygget Dec 2006)
Almost opaque black color, creamy firm tan head. Wheat, some chocolate, roasted malty aroma, same kind of yeasty aroma than in Nogne O -beers (same yeast?). Full bodied. Roasted malty, very light notes of banana, not very hoppy beer - soft, coffeish, a bit fruity. Enjoyable, doesnt feel like 8.5 %.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2010 Bottled. A deep brown beer with a medium tan head leaving some nice lacings. The aroma has a certain wood-note that I first suspected to come from the Norwegian Wood I tasted at the same time, but I didnt find that to be the answer. It has roasted and burnt malt, some chocolate and vanilla as well. I found the woody notes in the flavor as well, followed by a heavy roasted flavor, vanilla and bittering hops. Full-bodied beer with a long bitter finish with both hop-bitterness and chocolate-bitterness. Some alcohol as well. A well-composed beer from Haandbryggeriet. Rating: 7-4-8-4-15-3.8. 070317

On tap at Olympen. It pours a black body under a minimal-sized tan head. Licorice and molasses starts the aroma ball, followed by burnt malts, hints of dried fruits and some alcohol in the far back. Dryish, yet sweetish mouthfeel, warming and full-bodied. The flavor has quite a lot of molasses and licorice, but also the burnt malts found in the aroma. Alcohol and bitterness chimes in towards the end. Mostly of the burnt kind, the bitterness. Overall, a fine beer indeed, but more emphasized on the burnt flavors than I prefer. A beer I return to every now and then anyway. 091113
