Vanilla, coffee and liquorice. Well balanced, lots of liquorice in finish. It is nice, but not much of aquavit.

Bottle. 7.0%. Best before 03.02.20. As ’Haandbryggeriet Akevitt Porter’. Pours almost black, with a tan head. Decent lacing. Sweetish, roasted aroma. Light tart overtone, hint of alcohol, increasing a bit as it warms. A wee bit fruity/berry-like as it warms as well. Hints of wood. Flavour is pretty much the same. Dryish, roasted finish with a lingering coffee-ish bitterness and a mild boozy note/alcohol burn. Overall good, well-balanced. Also pleased to see that it doesn’t have any discernable caraway notes, despite the aquavit barrel aging. 12.05.17.

0,3 litre Bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg, at home. Dark, almost black. Akevitt taste

Mörkt brun till svart öl med ett beige skum. Doften är söt och rostad med choklad och viss alkoholsötma. I smaken tillkommer lättare toner av akvavitkryddningen. Jag tycker inte att dessa höjer ölen.

Appearance: Minimum yellowy/brown head nicely attaching to glass, deep brown color. Aroma:Coffe mixed with whisky, chocolate pralines, and some wood. Taste: a bit whisky gently warming your throat, a lot of dark chocolate pralines and old woody taste. Just perfect.

There isn’t tons of Norwegian beer in my area, but from the few I’ve had, it’s pretty clear they how to make some awesome Porters. Speaking of things I don’t know dick about: akevitt. I’ve never had it and don’t know much about what it’s supposed to take like, so I might have to revisit this rating after my ass is more learned. HaandBryggeriet Fatlagret pours near-black and thick. Roast, dark chocolate, herbal tree spirits, and a touch of smoke. Flavor follows the nose. This tastes largely like your typical roasty, rich Imperial Porter but with generous notes of juniper and earth. Viscous, stick-to-your-bones mouthfeel. Some warm booze. I’m going to need to much more HaandBryggeriet in my life.
