COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Odins Tipple was meant to be a strong beer, but we changed our minds...its still strong but we wont follow the mega strong trend. It should be possible to make great beer without the extreme alcohol potency. Odins Tipple is now approx 11% abv, it’s a dark almost black beer from lots and lots of chocolate malt. Its the malt that contributes the flavor...no added coffee or anything else, Its got a great body without being old engine oil and still very drinkable due to the wild yeast we use. This beer is made with a single strain of wild yeast and the recipe is dead simple.

5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - OCT 16, 2010
Bottle:   Pitch black, large frothy brown head, sticky lacing.   Amazing how thick and black this is.   Sweet roasted malt, lactose, slight campfire and peat.   Seems like a cross between a Scottish Ale and perhaps an Imperial Stout.   On the tongue it is very roasty, but also has big heaps of campfire, charred wood, peat, and lactose.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth and robust.   Not overly heavy like other Imperial Stouts.   Has a bit of a coffee aspect on the finish.   Very malty, low hop aspect, which is expected for a Norsk beer.   Sweet, roasty, loads of lactose, peat, charred wood, campfire.   This is not your average Imperial Stout.   It is much like Robust Porter crossed with an Imperial Scottish or something.   Hops are low, malts are high.   Very flavorful.   At first I thought it said Odin’s Tripple... and when I poured it I thought what retard didn’t do his/her homework.   It was me who needed to do the homework.   As is, very robust and flavorful beer.   Once again, proud to be Norwegian.   This is a very unique and flavorful Imperial Stout.

Dark brown, has a nice dark malt character...good...not sure what's distinctive about it to get it at 99 percentile...just a nice imperial stout.

Bottle at home, 5th October 17. Pours black, dark tan head. aroma is coffee, liquorice, roast malts, meaty. Taste is liquorice, dry, sweet and bitter, bovril, leather. Good and solid imperial stout, as per the description, doesn't deviate.

500mL bottle from Carwyn Cellars. Batch 1015 BB 21.09.2020 Pours a proper opaque black body - head is dark tan head, slightly orange hued, creamy. Intense nose - dark roast coffee, cocoa, orangey hops, rich earthy toffee, nutty malt. Big syrupy, slick, oily body, great weight, warming, lovely texture, low carbonation. Inky, lots of dark sugars, burnt chocolate, bitter coffee, licorice, nuts, get a good orangey sort of hop character, touch of vanilla. Finishes with warming booze, plenty of bitterness. Formidable, brilliant!

Tap in Gulating, served too cold. Pours black, ruby reflections. Lack of any head. Nose: sweet-spicy, pastries, coffee, little of dried prune. The aroma is a little bourbon-like, barrelly. Aroma is sweet. And taste is dry. Very boozy. Watery and empty, hasn’t opened too much with warming up. I would believe there was any weird, forgotten fruits’ jam addition.

W aromacie czekolada, szlachetny alkohol, kakao, palonosc. Barwa bardzo ciemny braz, piana ladna, pozostajaca. W smaku bardzo wytrawne, kawowe. Spodziewalem sie troche czegos innego. Alkohol nie wyczuwalny w smaku, ale rozgrzewa konkretnie. Fajny RIS, brakuje gestosci i slodyczki, btw goryczka srednia do wysokiej. Dobre, ale nie do konca w moich preferencjach.

0,5l bottle at home. BB 21.09.2020. black color, small coffee colored head. smells earthy, brown sugar, bit milky, light berry notes, light oxidation, lightly nutty. nice smell overall. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, tons of peat & ash, grassy, milky, peppery, nutty, marzipan, did not like it at first. but after a bit of warming up, some sugary, berry, grassy and more sweet earthy notes come through. finishes lightly sweet with notes of earth, sugar and grassy notes. did not like the taste at first when it was rather cold. after warming up its not a bad beer, drinakble but still rather heavy. a bit on the sugary side (when warm).

Helt svart med beige, kremete skum. Lukter kaffe, lakris og nøtter. Mye det samme i smaken sammen med karamell og noe mørke bær. Herlig, tykk munnfølelse.

nearbeer (5561) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 16, 2017
500 ml Batch 973 bottled Apr. 2016. Inky black with the creamiest non-nitro head ever seen. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark toffee, dark bread, dark fruit, graham cracker, real licorice and a touch of blackberry. Flavors of the same mix plus some espresso with cream, roasted nut, char and ash. Medium-heavy body is silky smooth with low-medium carbonation and the most dangerous drinkability, with no hint of the 11%. I guess my ratebeer quest is over, this is my only perfect score ever given.
