Black with a lasting off-white head. Unique aroma of wood fire, with roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Sweet malty and roasted flavour NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 19, 2010
Bottle from West Lakeview. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a tannish head. Nose is subtle smoke notes, beechwood and campfire. Some sweet notes as well and bread. On taste, smokey but also a bit metallic. Some like phenol notes. Slight acid tang. Pretty interesting beer, much like a lighter Bamberger style. joeneugs (6372) - Livermore, California, USA - DEC 17, 2010
Batch #273. Bottle. Pours brown with a beige/orange fizzy head. The aroma is smoky wood. Not too overpowering, and definitely no bacon in there. Behind that, there is some dark fruitiness and a bit of soap. The flavor is smoky and malty with a fair bit of brown sugar sweetness. It manages to still feel rather light considering the high alcohol content. Chocolate malts shine through in the finish, providing a nice interplay with the smoke. A dark brown pour that allows only a bit of red highlights to show through. A fluffy tan head that has excellent retention. The aroma is a bit difficult to determine but is faint smoke, hops, and some figs. Throw in some chocolate and you have the flavor profile. That smoke is soggy and just the perfect amount. The hops are subtle, have peppermint aromatics, and make this a much more interesting beer. A decadent feel. Very well done. Holy (897) - GERMANY - DEC 16, 2010

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2010 Pours dark brown with a medium brownish head. Aroma is slightly smoky with roasted malts, spices and ham. Flavor is more focused on the malts and spices. Very nice. 17thfloor (2444) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 14, 2010
Bottle. Pours a dark chocolate brown, lightly viscous, with a frothy thick light tan somewhat sticky head. Soapy aroma, smoked fish, floral fruity hop notes, sweet smoked glazed ham, dank fire wood, delightful, rich brown sugar glaze, bit of alcohol to tie it all together, so pleasant. At first I wasn’t impressed, but as it has warmed a bit it is coming into it’s own in a magnificent way, the floral hop note with the light bitterness is a bit odd at first, almost soapy, the attenuation of this really allows some delicate interplay of flavors, smoked fish and wet drift wood, crystal malt and brown sugar, hint of dark chocolate and duck towards the quick finish, leaves a lingering beechwood smoke character in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, watery feeling, larger bubbly carbonation. rateyourpoison (198) - chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 11, 2010

Batch 273, Cosmic Comic Cafe, Turku.
Dark ruby, almost black beer. Averge, somewhat creamy head. Sturdy malt body, smoky ham, some tar, light herbal hoppiness. Liquid bread, a hint of dark fruitiness. Salty touch, pleasant tar-like and slightly plummy finish with soft smokiness. Almost full bodied, oily and thick palate. Nice, traditional smoked beer. tiong (7754) - Espoo, FINLAND - DEC 10, 2010
