Towey1989 (2835) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 30, 2017
Bottle at Beerdock Leek. Pours a clear deep amber colour with a medium off beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, dried fruits, some brown sugar, slight prune, a little nuts and a hint of spice. Taste of caramel, dried fruits, brown sugar, some plum, prune, slight chocolate, a little fruit, a hint of tobacco and subtle spice. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A bittersweet, sugary, fruit and spicy bitterness in the finish. A good dopplebock, very malty with a lot of sugar and spice. A typical Munich beer. Enjoyable.

From old tasting notes. Deep reddish brown color with a big creamy tan head. Splendid burnt caramel aroma. Big bittersweet toasted malt flavor with a spicy dry finish. Long complex lingering bitter aftertaste. A real mouthfeel. Very tasty and worthy of its style. Nice Belgian lace.

Low carbonation, brown color. Much brighter in color than many doppelbocks I’ve had. Very bready aroma, lacks some of the complex dried fruits of roasted tones I like. Quit strong with evident alcohol. Starts sweet and malty, but finishes quite bitter, much more than expected. I didn’t feel this one was up to snuff...could be because I like my doppelbocks with much lower bitterness.

500 ml bottle served in abbey glass. Bright brown colour, bright yellow foam head. Whiskey, roasted malt, coffee, caramelized sugar. Bittersweet taste. Alcoholic warmth. Soft carbonated, full body. Oily texture. Bitter finish.

Clear ruby red beer with a medium sized, quite shortlasting, brownish head. Aromas of caramel malt, chocolate, dark fruits, sour fruits. Taste is malty, nutty, tobacco, medium sweet and a bit bitter. Alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, flat carbonation. Hmm.

Rugamu (174) - SPAIN - FEB 14, 2017
Gran doppelbock, sabor intenso nada lupulado que se hace una delicia en la boca. Repetiré sin dudar.

glennmastrange (2871) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - SEP 19, 2016
Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted, caramel and cereal for the malt, light herbs for the hops, moderate broth and leather for the yeast, with notes of toffee, tobacco, brown sugar and faint spice in the background. Head is large, creamy turning rocky, light tan with good slippery lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky dark rusty brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and slightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and slightly bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy with a soft carbonation. Excellent Doppelbock with a bit more richness than others.
