3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Bottle) Pours clear amber yellow with good white head. Aroma is cereal, bread with hints of grassy hops and something sweet, maybe pear drops. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste is unexceptional - there’s bready malt to start, some more complex sweeter notes appear, but the taste rather fades out to a somewhat watery flat finish. Certainly drinkable, but not great.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml can. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a small, fizzy, short lived, white head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of bready malt, corn and light apple. Sweet flavour of biscuit malt, caramel, corn and lemon with a crisp, dry, mildly bitter, hoppy
finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. A good Helles.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
This lager poured a clear yellow with a minimal soapy head. Minimal lacing. Scents include dry cat food, toast and malt. First swig was quite malty with flavours of malt, cereal and cat food. Finish is slightly toasty with lingering maltiness.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml flip top bottle from M&S. Pours a light gold with no head. Nose is bready malt with some citrus lemon. Taste is bready, grainy, straw, lemon citrus and a malty slightly bitter finish. Smooth, refreshing and pleasant. Just weird that this beer had no head whatsoever, might just have been this bottle.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: clear pale gold with two fingers of rocky white head, good retention and moderate soapy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: sweet grainy pale malt, citrus, berry, grassy hay. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-low bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-light body, moderate carbonation, crisp off-dry mild bitter finish. (3/5)
I’m not generally a fan of lagers, and I left any reverence for the Reinheitsgebot behind a long time ago - but this is quite pleasant. No hint of adjunct sickliness, just clean pale malt and aromatic noble hops. As Helles Lagers go, this has got to be near the top of the heap. Now, if only I had a big pretzel to go with it, or maybe a pork hock… (13/20)
